Chesapeake Bay Trust Announced as Legacy Charity Partner for Across the Bay 10k
(Annapolis, MD) May 30, 2014 – Today organizers for the Across the Bay 10k announced the Chesapeake Bay Trust as a 2014 Legacy Charity Partner for this year’s inaugural race.
The sold out event is set for Nov. 9, 2014. The 6.2-mile, point-to-point course will take up to 20,000 runners across the iconic, 4.3-mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge, which reaches 186 feet at its tallest point.
As a legacy partner, the Chesapeake Bay Trust will serve as an official race partner and will be able to raise money for the Bay through the sale of charity race bibs and online fundraising efforts. The Chesapeake Bay Trust is a nonprofit, grant-making organization that awards more than $5 million each year to help restore the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers, and improve local communities.
“We are so pleased to work with the Chesapeake Bay Trust as it is important to connect our racers with the natural resource that is making this event possible,” said race organizer Sparrow Rogers. “The Trust does so much to improve the Bay and our community and we look forward to working with them, and all our charitable partners, to make this year’s event as successful as possible.”
The inaugural Across the Bay 10k will mark the first organized crossing of that bridge in eight years, after the original Chesapeake Bay Bridge Walk and Governor’s Bay Bridge Run ended in 2006.
“The Chesapeake Bay Trust was a partner for many years in the previous Bay Bridge event and we are thrilled to be back as a part of this year’s Across the Bay 10k,” said Molly Alton Mullins, director of communications at the Chesapeake Bay Trust. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for racers and Bay lovers alike; never do we get the chance to run across something as majestic as the Bay Bridge and take in all the Chesapeake Bay has to offer.”
