The Bank Security certificate provides students with practical hands-on security assessment and mitigation skills related to computer networks, web applications, wireless systems, and related technologies in the financial services sector. Given the growing importance of security in financial services, the ability to secure information is becoming important in banks across the world.

The field of information security continues to explode and the demand for the number of technology professionals who must understand something about security continues to increase. While no new courses are being proposed, the Bank Security certificate does hold the promise to increase recruitment of bank technology and bank security professionals around the world to Dakota State University. The certificate also further demonstrates Dakota State’s commitment to the financial services sector, which is vital to the economy of South Dakota. The Bank Security certificate serves as an onramp to the Masters of Science Degree in Information Assurance (MSIA), which also offers a bank and financial services security specialization.

3. / Who is the audience for the program?

The program is designed for any graduate student who wants to advance their education in information security in financial services, but it not yet ready to commit to a full graduate degree (MSIA, MSIS, etc.). The program will also partner with the Graduate School of Banking (GSB) at the University of Wisconsin to matriculate GSB students from their newly formed Bank Security School.

The ideal candidate for the Bank Security certificate program is a(n):

·  Information Security Officer who is looking for advanced education in INFOSEC

·  Network Security Professional who is looking for advanced education in INFOSEC

·  IT professional who is looking for security content to augment their existing job responsibilities and learn more about INFOSEC

Students with technology-based undergraduate degrees in Computer Science (or related technology degree) are good candidates for this certificate program.

All courses are delivered via distance thereby appealing to professionals regardless of location. Distance classes use a combination of both live and/or encoded streaming videos of classes, interactive course web boards, course web sites, and e-mail. All courses are web-enhanced.

The Bank Security certificate is a 9 credit hour graduate certificate. A graduate certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the program. The program includes a principles class, one INFOSEC management class and one INFOSEC technology class. Students can select from one of four INFOSEC technology courses.
