SOCIETY OF AMERICAN TRAVEL WRITERS ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF BILL MUSTER PHOTO COMPETITION AND PHOENIX AWARDS

Awards Presented at Annual Convention in Wenzhou, China


WENZHOU, CHINA (Oct. 25, 2016) – The Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) announces the winners of the annual Bill Muster Photo and Phoenix Awards Competitions.

SATW named Robert Holmes the 2017 Photographer of the Year in the organization’s Bill Muster Photo Competition during its annual convention, taking place now through Oct. 29, 2016, in Wenzhou, China. Eric Lindberg won the Silver Award, and Gary Arndt won the Bronze Award.


The 2017 Bill Muster Photo Competition recognizes outstanding photography in the following categories: Photographer of the Year, Single Subject Portfolio, Action, Animal, Cultural Scenic, People (General), People (Portrait) and Natural Scenic. Winners were selected from 200 entries. Following are the winners in each category:

Single Subject Portfolio:
Gold – David Swanson, Silver – Ellen Clark, Bronze – Doug Stremel, Merit Award – Howard Millard

Action:
Gold – Flash Parker, Silver – Chad Case, Bronze – Art Meripol

Animal:
Gold – Richard Nowitz, Silver – Doug Stremel, Bronze – Kate Pocock,

SATW also announced the winners of the Phoenix Awards that recognize conservation and preservation tourism leaders. The 2016 Phoenix Awards were presented to the
Bruce Trail Conservancy in Ontario, Canada and Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation in Buffalo, New York.

“SATW is the premiere organization representing the highest professional standards in travel communication and photography. Our member's work appears in the top outlets around the world. Once a year we recognize the best photography work in the Muster Photo Competition. Our Phoenix awards provide recognition to those who have demonstrated exemplary work to preserve and enhance travel destinations,” said SATW President Paul Lasley.
