Sign up for StudyBlue to help your child study for test using online flashcards.

StudyBlue is a free tool that allows teachers to create online flashcards to help their students prepare for tests that involve a great deal of vocabulary items. The system is easy to use and this tutorial should walk you through setting up an account and how to use the tool to help your student prepare for tests. If you have any questions, please email Don Jeffries, our Curriculum Coach at Windsor Middle School, at . He is more than happy to assist you with any problems you encounter with the study tool.

Get started by following the steps below:

1.  Create a StudyBlue account.

  1. Go to www.studyblue.com
  2. Click on Join and register using an email account.

2.  Teachers can post links to flashcards he/she has created.

  1. If you have opened a StudyBlue account, you can quiz your child by just clicking on the link on a teacher’s webpage like the example below or by typing in the code a teacher has given students to access the flashcards.
  1. The link will take you to the set of flashcards that the teacher has created where you can use one of three options to help your child prepare for tests: flashcards, a quiz, or a review sheet.

3.  The Flip Flashcards option works like any hand held flashcards, but it will keep a running total on how a student performs with the cards.

  1. The option area allows you to choose which item you would like to see first on the flashcard: term or definition.
  1. Once your child makes a guess at what the answer is, clicking the mouse will tell the answer to the question. Click on the “green thumbs up” if the answer is correct. Click on the “red thumbs down” if the answer is incorrect. Once you decide whether the answer is correct or not, the program moves to the next card.
  1. At the conclusion of the study session, StudyBlue will give a percentage score to tell how the individual did. After numerous sessions, the student will be given an estimated level of mastery based on the percentage of times while studying he or she got the terms correct. Also, the system will allow the student to “Study the Wrongs” to give a more focused study session.

4.  The student can also take a quiz based on the cards with the program. It is recommended to do the option with the multiple-choice since it lends itself the best to the set up summative and benchmark tests.

5.  The review sheet option allows students to go over the terms first before seeing how well they know the information using the previously mentioned Flip Flashcards or Take Quiz options.

6.  StudyBlue is also an application that can be used on an iPhone, iPad, or Android technology. You access the free app by typing StudyBlue into the search engine for your mobile device marketplace. While using a phone, the flashcards are the only option available.
