SUPERVISES: Non-Supervisory Position

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To respond to fires, emergency medical and other emergency calls when dispatched.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

· Responds to fire, EMS and other emergency calls.

· Performs fire code enforcement duties and public safety education duties.

· Performs all activities necessary to suppress and extinguish fires.

· Removes individuals from dangerous or hazardous situations.

· Diagnoses EMS problems and performs the prescribed treatment as outlined and authorized by the State of Arizona for level of EMT they are assigned (i.e. Basic EMT, IEMT or Paramedic).

· Conducts pre-fire planning surveys.

· Enters data into computer systems.

· Maintains fire stations and grounds, apparatus assigned to the District and other equipment and fire extinguishing systems.

· Drives apparatus to and from the scene of emergencies.

· Operates fire pumps, water tenders and other specialized apparatus and specialized tools.

· Make minor repairs and adjustments to apparatus and equipment and assists in their mechanical maintenance and repair.

· May be required to act as a relief Engineer or Captain.

· Attends training sessions.

· Performs other duties as assigned or required.

· Compiles records and writes reports relative to personnel, emergency responses, station facilities and other related activities

· Enforces all district policies, regulations and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must Have to Apply

· High school diploma or GED equivalent.

· Valid Arizona Driver’s license

· National and state certified Firefighter I and II, IFSAC certified, First Responder hazardous materials operation certificate.

· State certified at a minimum of Emergency Medical Technician.

Must Achieve within Fire District’s Approved Time Line.

· NIMS certified to fire district’s approval level.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Meets all knowledge requirements as a firefighter

· Knowledge of administrative regulations, policies and guidelines

· Knowledge of fire service hydraulics

· Knowledge of safe driving techniques and Arizona Revised Statues laws concerning emergency driving

· Passed an approved driving course

· Basic understanding of fire apparatus maintenance and operation

· Knowledge of the geography of the fire district.

· Possession of a valid Arizona Driver’s License.

· Skill in effective oral and written communications.

NOTE: Employees must maintain a valid State of Arizona driver’s license for the appropriate class throughout employment with the Arizona City Fire District. A review will be performed annually to verify driver’s license status and review traffic accidents and citations.

Special Requirements: Must pass a fire district approved medical evaluation once a year and pass a bi-annual approved driving course.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: Operates in dangerous, hot and stressful environments.
