POTATO INVESTIGATION – EXEMPLAR SUCCESS CRITERIA
LEVEL 6
Task
You are to carry out an investigation to find out how the number of potato pieces affects the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.
To be successful I will need to:
· Collect all the correct equipment to carry out my investigation.
· Understand any hazards that might be involved in carrying out my investigation so that I can work safely.
· Cut all the pieces of potato so that they are the same size.
· Control all the variables that need to be controlled so that my investigation is fair.
· Collect a set of reliable results with an appropriate range and display them in a table so they can be analysed carefully.
· Draw a good quality scatter graph so that I can identify any trends and patterns in my investigation.
· Use my results and my graph to draw valid conclusions.
· Write a detailed evaluation so that I can improve the way I carry out future investigations.
POTATO INVESTIGATION - SUCCESS CRITERIA
LEVEL 5
Task
You are to carry out an investigation to find out how the number of potato pieces affects the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.
Try to match up each of the success criteria below with a suitable justification:
To be successful I will need to:· collect all the correct apparatus
· know the hazards involved in the investigation
· draw a table of results and draw a scatter graph
· cut all the pieces of potato so that they are the same size / So that I can:
· work sensibly and safely
· so that I can draw valid conclusions from my investigation
· carry out a fair test
· carry out my investigation using the correct scientific equipment
Write these in a suitable order in your book.

LEVEL 4
Task
You are to carry out an investigation to find out how the number of potato pieces affects the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.
Select four suitable Success Criteria from the following list and use them to complete the Spider Diagram below:
To be successful I will need to:
· collect all the correct apparatus
· draw a picture of a kettle
· work sensibly and safely
· set up a microscope
· draw a table of results and draw a scatter graph
· change three independent variables each time
· cut all the potato pieces so that they are the same size
· let someone else do the experiment for me
SUCCESS CRITERIA
Write these in a suitable order in your book.
POTATO INVESTIGATION - SUCCESS CRITERIA
