Directions to Paul’s place

My address is

85 Brookside Ave, Unit H

Jamaica Plain, MA 02130

Sometimes Mapquest and other online services give directions to a location 2-3 miles away from my address, so be careful using those services.

By T, the Orange Line:

It’s really easy to get to my place by the T. Take the Orange line to the Green Street T station. It’s the next to the last stop heading South, usually less than 20 minutes from Downtown Crossing.

From the top of the stairs exit to the right. The intersection with traffic light right ahead of you will be Green Street and Amory. Cross Amory and go one short block. The next street crossing Green will be Brookside Ave. Take a left onto Brookside (away from the new construction, towards some older industrial buildings.) I’m at the end of the long block formed by Green Street, Brookside, Cornwall, and Amory Street. If you walk up Brookside towards Cornwall you’ll pass a small side street on the right, Ophir. Unit H is the second door from the Green Street end of my building.

The middle door in this picture.

From the South (traveling on 93 North) heading towards Boston:

Get off at the Mass Ave exit, which is South of any of the Boston tunnels.

Take Expressway North (Route 93/3). Take Exit 18. Watch for signs. At third traffic light, take left onto access road stay in left or center lane. The name of the access road is the Mass Ave connector and Boston Medical Center (formerly called Boston City Hospital) will be to your right.

(Proceed to the section common to 93 North and 93 South drivers)

From the North (traveling on 93 South):

Route 93 South. Take Exit 18 (Mass Ave). At traffic light, take right onto access road; stay in right lane. The name of the access road is the Mass Ave connector and Boston Medical Center (formerly called Boston City Hospital) will be to your right.

From here, the directions are for both 93 North and 93 South travelers:

At the end of Mass Ave connector, don’t bother to turn onto Mass Ave. Instead proceed straight across the intersection onto MELNEA CASS BLVD.

From MALNEA CASS BLVD. take a LEFT onto TREMONT Street (you will cross Shawmut Ave before you reach this intersection.)

Stay on Tremont. You will pass Ruggles street, the Boston Police station at Schroeder Plaza, and Malcolm X Blvd. As Tremont crosses Malcolm X Blvd it will become COLUMBUS AVE.

Continue straight on Tremont / COLUMBUS AVE.

Cross Heath Street and Centre Street, continuing on COLUMBUS AVE.

As you get through the light at Centre Street get in the right hand lane.

You are going to take the next RIGHT onto AMORY Street.

AMORY Street is a narrow, not very well marked side street. If you miss it. Don't worry take the next right which should be Dimock Street. Dimock will get you onto Amory after a block.

Continue on Amory Street. You will go through two or three traffic signals while on AMORY.

Take a LEFT from Amory onto CORNWALL Street.

When you turn onto Cornwall, take a right into the parking lot. If you miss the parking lot, Brookside will be at the first stop sign on Cornwall.

(If you missed the turn at Cornwall, the next traffic signal will be at Green Street. There is an Orange Line MBTA stop at the intersection of Green Street and Amory Street. Take a left onto Green Street and then your first left onto Brookside. I'm near the intersection of Brookside and Cornwall.)

From the west end of the MIT campus:

Cross the BU bridge into Boston, using the right lane, at the first light get in the center lane and go straight for one block.

Go two blocks and take a right until you reach Saint Paul Street (the traffic light.)

Turn left onto Saint Paul Street.

Continue down Saint Paul Street and cross Beacon Street (Jae’s restaurant will be at the corner across Beacon) continuing straight.

At the net light (at the top of the hill) get in the left lane and take a left onto Longwood.

Take Longwood to the Riverway (3 traffic lights?) and take a RIGHT ONTO RIVERWAY.

While on Riverway (aka The Jamaica Way) you will cross Brookline Ave (near Deaconess and Beth Israel Hospitals) and several other cross streets.

You will eventually turn LEFT ONTO POND STREET. The intersection of Pond and Riverway is right near the pavilion on Jamaica Pond. You will have passed Perkins street at the previous traffic light.

Go to the end of Pond Street (2 blocks) to the intersection with Centre Street. From Pond Street TURN RIGHT ONTO CENTRE STREET.

At the end of Seaverns you will intersect Amory Street. You will be right behind the Green Street T station.

Turn LEFT from SEAVERNS ONTO AMORY.

At the light (about 100 feet) turn RIGHT ONTO GREEN STREET.

Take the first LEFT from GREEN ONTO BROOKSIDE. (If you reached Washington Street you went to far.)

Drive up Brookside, you will pass Ophir Street on your right half way up the block.

As you approach Cornwall you can park on Brookside or take a left onto Cornwall and take the left into the condo parking lot.

From the WEST along ROUTE 9:

If you come into Boston via route 9, there is an exit onto the Riverway (aka the Jamaica Way.) This exit is right near where route 9 and Brookline Ave intersect. I don’t recall how well marked this is. It also right near where route 9 becomes Huntington Ave.

Head South on Riverway, away from Brookline Ave and Kenmore Sq.

From Beacon Street turn left onto Arlington (just past the Boston Gardens (Bull and Finch / Cheers).

Take Arlington to Columbus and take a RIGHT onto Columbus.

Continue down Columbus, crossing Mass Ave, and go all the way to where Columbus doglegs to the left towards Tremont. There is a traffic light at this point. It is possible to proceed straight at this point, but there are signs that say “Not a through way” or something like that.

Turn left onto the dogleg. I don’t recall seeing a street name for this one block street.

At the first light turn RIGHT onto TREMONT. (If you don’t make the turn and go straight you will be on Melena Cass Blvd.)

Stay on Tremont. You will pass Ruggles street, the Boston Police station at Schroeder Plaza, and Malcolm X Blvd. As Tremont crosses Malcolm X Blvd it will become COLUMBUS AVE.

Cross the river using MASS AVE. Proceed past Symphony Hall and TURN RIGHT ONTO COLUMBUS AVE.

General Parking notes:

The condo association has a parking lot off Cornwall between Amory and Brookside. The parking lot has room for 5 guest cars (shared by the 32 units.) The parking spaces are numbered. Guest may park in spaces 18-22 only. No parking is allowed during snow storms and snow removal periods.

You can also park on the street along Brookside, Cornwall, or to a lesser extent, Amory. There is usually ample parking on Brookside. So far I never seen anyone ticketed for lack of a JP resident sticker.

From the PARKING LOT:

With your back to Cornwall and the entrance to the parking lot, there will be a boardwalk to your left. It goes through the grounds out to Brookside.

At Brookside walk to your right. I'm in UNIT H, the next to the last door on the building.
