OUTREACH NOTICE

Pacific Northwest Region 6 – Lands Zones

NATIONAL FORESTS across the

Pacific Northwest Region of the USDA Forest Service

Land Surveyor Pathways Trainee, GS–1399- 3/5

The Northern Washington Lands Zone (Colville, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie, Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests) anticipate advertising for a number of GS-1399-3/4/5 Pathways Indefinite Interns with various duty stations across Oregon and Washington. These positions will service the various Lands Zones within the Region. We will provide training, career experience and mentorship from Licensed Land Surveyors within the region. The positions will report to the Lead Land Surveyor of the Zone in which each position is duty stationed. The positions are Pathways Indefinite Intern positions.

The Pathways Indefinite Intern position is designed to work with student schedules and provide a career development training opportunity in the Land Survey arena. Upon successful completion of educational and program requirements, the incumbent will be eligible for conversion to a permanent GS-1373-07 Professional Survey Trainee position with the US Forest Service. While conversion to a permanent position is not guaranteed, our intent is to develop career-minded individuals who could fill future vacancies in this Region or elsewhere in the Forest Service. We are considering filling up to 7 positions within the Region with several potential duty stations as listed on the attached “outreach form”. This is a great opportunity to gain experience and work toward a possible career in Boundary and Survey management within the USDA Forest Service.

Job duties and training will include a diverse range of survey projects are varied, complex, and challenging, including terrestrial (both conventional and GPS based), engineering (sites and roads), and other surveys as needed. The positions include both field and office work. Work requires the ability to hike, wade, lift, carry and use equipment in rugged terrain and in mountain weather while maintaining and establishing boundaries. The ability to work safely and in a team environment is necessary. The incumbent should enjoy living in remote mountain or grassland settings. Prior Land Survey experience is beneficial, but not required. Work periods will be agreed upon, considering educational needs, but generally be during summer months. The first work period is expected to be summer of 2018.

This outreach notice is to identify potential candidates to determine the best duty stations for these pathways positions. If you are interested in applying for this position, please respond on the attached Outreach Notice Form by October 31, 2017.
