2009 ADVANCED VICTIM ADVOCATE TRAINING (ADV VAT) REGISTRATION

The New Mexico ADVANCED Victim Advocate Training is a forum for discussion and mutual learning. The curriculum is based on survey responses by participants who attended basic VAT and includes topics such as domestic violence, sexual assault, legal advocacy, community advocacy, victim rights, professional and personal boundaries and more. The purpose of this training is to enable victim advocates from all over the state to discuss, challenge, and participate in giving and receiving information, encouragement and supporting new ideas that will benefit all of us.

Pre-requisite: Attended NM Basic VAT. Training is limited to 25 participants. Graduates from earlier trainings receive preference. Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training.

Mandatory Times and Dates:

Check-in: 1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009

Training: Begins: 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009

Ends: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009

Location: Red River, New Mexico

*Important! If the applicant does not attend the training after all arrangements have been made, the applicant’s agency will be responsible for all costs. The applicant may make arrangements for a replacement that has been approved by CVRC or CVRC may select a replacement from the waiting list, but all arrangements must be confirmed by 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 9, 2009. Call Robin, Kristy or Larry at 841-9435 to discuss the situation prior to the deadline.

INCLUDES: Lodging at the very comfortable Best Western River’s Edge. Each room contains: small refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. All rooms are non-smoking. There are areas at the hotel for people who smoke. Everyone will be in his or her own room. Breakfast & lunch will be included daily with a cook out dinner provided on Monday, July 13th.

Training: It will be interactive with participants’ responsible for bringing their area’s information (written resource lists, knowledge of working relationships with law enforcement, DA’s office, courts, medical facilities, community services, etc.) All sessions must be attended, your contributions are very important.
