Classroom Procedures 2016-17

Classroom Supplies:

· Three ring binder & 5 dividers

· highlighter (any color)

· pencil and notebook paper

· colored grading pen

· TWO dry erase markers (3rd Hour)

· Box of Kleenex (6th Hour)

Calculators: We will primarily use the TI-30 XIIS multi-view in class. All students will need a calculator for use outside of class.

Pen vs. Pencil: ALL correspondence turned into Mrs. Schwarz must be done in PENCIL. Work done in pen will not receive credit. Mechanical pencils may be purchased from me for $0.50.

Grading: Grades will be given on a points earned out of points possible basis. No grades will be dropped. Semester grades will be weighted 80% current semester average, 20% semester test grade. Anytime your class average falls below a 60%, you will be marked ineligible for any extracurricular activities (see student handbook). Grades will be updated on Infinite Campus each Wednesday.

Notes: All notes will be taken in your composition notebooks. Your notebook will be turned in on test day prior to taking the unit exam.

Classroom Structure & Grading:

Homework: Homework will be given nightly and may consist of reading, vocabulary, making a list of “5 BIG Ideas”, problems, internet research, online videos, and various other exciting things. Homework is designed to take 15-30 minutes and may be done ahead of time if students would like to work ahead.

Participation: We will have daily discussions over the previous evening’s assignment. Occasionally students will have to turn in the homework for a grade. Students will need to be prepared to participate in classroom discussions. A 25 point participation grade will be given each nine weeks.

Classwork: Applying and practicing math concepts is an integral part of the learning process. Much of this will occur IN CLASS in the form of activities, group problem solving, bookwork, and through technology. Classwork grades will be taken randomly throughout the week.

Notebooks: Each student will submit a quarterly notebook worth 100 points. The notebook will have 5 sections: BELLWORK, VOCABULARY, NOTES POSTULATES & THEOREMS, CLASSWORK, QUIZZES.

o Bellwork: Must be dated and work must be shown. Students do NOT have to write the question. Answers only will not receive credit.

o Vocabulary: Use three column form – WORD, DEFINITION, DIAGRAM

o Notes, Postulates, and Theorems: Must be dated and will included assigned homework, follow-up group work, class notes, etc.

o Classwork: Any in-class activities, worksheets, drill and practice, etc.

o Quizzes: Quizzes must be in order and CORRECTED on a separate sheet of paper with an explanation of why the problem was missed and what was done to correct it.

Quizzes: Multi-section quizzes will be listed on the unit assignment sheet and are worth 20-50 points. Unannounced quizzes over current material or material to be read the previous night may be given and will be worth 10 points.

Tests: Tests will usually be given at the end of each unit and are listed on the assignment sheet. They will be worth anywhere from 70-120 points.

Projects: Some units will contain a project (some group, some individual). Project point value will vary, but will be announced when the project is announced.

Late work: It is your responsibility to make sure your work is submitted on time.

Make-up Work: It is the student’s responsibility to obtain all missed assignments and notes, as well as make arrangements to make up any missed tests and quizzes. Make-up worksheets are in the file at the front of the room. See student hand book for details.

Attendance: I will follow the Moore Public Schools Attendance Policy. Two tardies are equivalent to one absence. See your student handbook for further detail. You must sign the tardy sheet every time you come in late or you will be considered absent.

Hall Passes: Hall passes can be found in your student planner. You must have YOUR planner and YOUR student ID to be able to leave the room. You will have 10 minutes of before school or lunch detention for every “bathroom break” you take. Failure to serve detention will result in a parent phone call and referral.

Food and Drink: Candy may be sold and eaten as long as you clean up after yourselves and you do not disrupt class. Beverage policy will be consistent with the Westmoore policy.

Discipline Plan: I do not expect any problems to arise during my class, but if one does occur, here are the steps that will be taken to eliminate the problem or disruptive behavior:

First Occurrence: Verbal Warning

Second Occurrence: Detention (15 minutes, AM only)

Third Occurrence: Parent Contact #1(15 minutes, AM only)

Fourth Occurrence: Parent Contact #2 and detention (30 minutes, AM only)

Comments and Questions: Parents may contact me at school (735-4800) between the hours of 7:50 and 3:00 or by email at ( ).

Looking forward to a GREAT year!!!!
