At the display we will hear stories of two local iwi Ngāti Rārua and Te Ātiawa and their relationship with Motueka. It tells the story of the great migrations these tribes made, travelling with related and allied tribes down the west coast of the North Island the top of the South. From early trade with whalers and traders, through the loss of land and livelihood due to the New Zealand Company and Crown acquisitions, to the revitalisation of today. The children will be able to view some of the unique and beautiful taonga (treasures).

It will be a great learning experience for us all and will be a lead in to our trip to the Onetahua marae next term.

Thank you

Jude, Tom & Jodie
