1. Launch MS Publisher
2. Select “Publications for Print”
3. Select “Poster”
4. A selection box will pop up on the LEFT HAND SIDE of the screen. You will have options of types/styles of posters to choose from. Select the layout you would like to work with.
5. A toolbox will pop-up for you to fill out your Personal Information. This is the same box you saw when you completed your business cards/greeting cards. For this assignment, you do NOT need to fill this out. Choose “Cancel”
6. Select a template for the style of card you are designing (Left hand side of screen).
7. One the right hand side of the screen, you will see options for: Publication Designs, Colour Schemes, and Font Schemes.
8. Decide which type of layout you will want in your page. (Portrait or Layout). This is the same step you took earlier when working with Business Cards.
9. You are now in “Edit Mode”. See the CRITERIA below for what you are required to put in your card.
10. Move as many things around as you like; change the colour schemes, change the font, add pictures, take things away, etc. The more you do with it, the more you will learn how to work with Publisher.
11. Save it in your Finished work folder (see top of page)

CRITERIA
· Choose a movie GENRE you would like to work with. Click HERE for a list to help.
· Pick 2-3 fonts. Play around with this, think about: size, color, capitalization, alignment, direction.
· Pick two or three colors, to use as a THEME throughout the poster.
· Insert a border.
· Arrange the image(s) and text without a lot of “busy” clutter.
· Arrange the design and lettering to attract the attention of passers-by.
· Consider how effective it will look next to other movie posters.
· Text and design should be large enough to be seen from a prescribed distance, usually 8-12 feet.
· Use harmonious color combinations. (Make sure the colour match and complement each other)
· Use fonts, pictures and themes that MATCH the movie you are promoting.
· Use a modern up-to-date art style, unless you are deliberately trying to create a poster that is mimicking an older style.
· The design should not detract from the impact of the words.
· Use a catch-phrase/attention grabbing picture to draw the audience in to the poster
· You may use image sources from the internet to include into your movie poster that would otherwise be impossible to duplicate (for example, airplanes, forests, wild animals, etc.) HOWEVER, ALL IMAGES OF PEOPLE MUST COME FROM YOUR OWN RESOURCES. You may not incorporate images of famous people, stock images, or clip art.
· You must have at least one interesting picture or graphic.
INCLUDE ALL THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS ON YOUR POSTER:
Include all of the following text elements into your movie poster (NOTE: All of the names of the people in the credits must be created or people you know. You may not use names that belong to already famous people):
1. Movie title
2. Names of main actors/actresses (a maximum of four)
3. Name of the production company
4. Name of the producer
5. Costume Designer
6. Film Editor
7. Production Designer
8. Director of Photography
9. Executive Producer(s)
10. Producer
11. Screenplay
12. Director
13. Rating of the movie (Choices include: G, PG, PG-13, R…., no “X” movies allowed)
14. Dolby Stereo logo
15. Release Date (when will the movie be in theaters?)
You may also consider including:
A hook or tag-line on the poster (perhaps a famous quote or something you make up) Or Quotes from made-up critic reviews.
