Wiper Controller System

The Wiper Controller System controls the windshield wiper motor, the washer fluid pump and is capable of delivering further intelligence thru utilizing LIN to interact with the rain sensor and stalk switch. The bidirectional communication via a LIN gateway enables better system control and diagnostics capability.

Design Considerations

· Robust, General Purpose Microcontroller Family with a small footprint

· Flexible Communication Interfaces

Solutions

· PIC16 and PIC18 microcontrollers enable a broad array of on-chip peripherals which provide the system designer with flexible options for consideration in addressing the requirements to provide more intelligence in the wiper systems. As the wiper systems move beyond dumb motors moving the wiper blades, the requirements for increased intelligence and connectivity must be addressed by the system designer.

· Utilizing the small footprints of the PICmicrocontrollers, the microcontroller may be integrated directly into the motor housing without compromising functionality while also supporting a path to allow system weight reduction. With on-chip peripherals to support LIN communication protocols, the system designer is able to choose the appropriate PICmicrocotntroller and MCP202x LIN transceiver that matches the overall system requirements.

· With optimum on-chip peripheral integration and robust design innovations, the PICmicrocontroller based systems facilitate smaller board design with shorter traces supporting a robust EMC design with reduced system costs.
