“Kaleidoscope Modern”

Misa Harada AW16 Collection

The Autumn/Winter ’16 collection, “Kaleidoscope Modern” draws inspiration from some of the great abstract art of the 20th century.

Dynamic sculptures by Alexander Calder and the geometric shapes and optical effects in Sonia Delaunay’s paintings and textiles are key influences for Misa’s latest collection of hats and headpieces.

The collection brings together fur and wool felts in rich burgundy, moss green, dark navy and silver grey, embellished with laser cut feathers in cowhide, metallic recycled sequins, sculptural lace applique, veiling and crystals, which echo the energy and vitality of great abstract art but with subtlety and wearability.

This season’s shapes are more exaggerated with taller crowns and larger brims, as evidenced by Misa’s homburg and wide brimmed cloche. Misa’s unique composition of form, colour and texture delivers a groomed, elegant vision of modern elegance.

Misa Harada trained at The Royal College of Art in the mid 1990's and then began her informal apprenticeship under the watchful eye of Royal appointed milliner Frederick Fox.

In 1998 Misa Harada launched her own label at Paris Fashion Week and her quirky yet elegant designs quickly became well known within fashion and millinery circles. Misa's unique style achieved by using traditional millinery skills has been championed by collaborators who have included Katharine Hamnett, Thierry Mugler and Yohji Yamamoto. More recently Misa has joined forces and created one off pieces with designers such as Bora Aksu and Reem.

As well as regularly featuring in International fashion publications Misa has made hats and head pieces for celebrities including The Scissor Sisters, The Rolling Stones, Mickey Rourke and Jennifer Aniston.

Today Misa Harada's women's and men's collections are sold in over 120 retail outlets across fifteen countries.
