The Individual Giving team is part of the Fundraising Department. A close working relationship will be necessary with Head of Departments and Senior Managers in the Fundraising Team in particular; Regional Fundraising, Regular Giving, Legacy, Major Gifts, Fundraising Operations.

Job summary

Determine the strategic plans for Individual donor recruitment, retention and development through Direct Marketing to deliver MCCC strategic plan objectives, in particular to support the Fundraising Strategic plan priorities. Optimise the income from and retention of MCCC supporters, and develop new channels and innovative approaches for supporter recruitment and stewardship.

This role has line management of 4 direct reports, with a wider team of 15, responsible for all our standard and mid-value appeals, gaming products, stewardship and retention activity, ‘welcome’ and ‘thank-you’ materials, telemarketing activity and is the organisational lead on direct marketing activity.

Duties and responsibilities

1.  Direct Marketing Strategy

Manage the development of the direct marketing campaign strategy and the annual planning process, and measure and report performance against the strategy and plans. Identify resource requirements and liaise and negotiate with Fundraising teams and operational support to ensure resources are available to deliver our strategic priorities.

2.  Planning

Prepare an annual plan to optimise the recruitment and retention of MCCC supporters, through all channels. Ensure that the plan delivers growth in income and in supporter numbers.

Manage the team to implement the annual plan including overseeing the development of the Campaign Management Process, manage the Appeals Management Schedule, update and communicate appropriately to suppliers and internal stakeholders.

3.  Supporter Recruitment:

Develop and implement Direct Marketing recruitment and conversion campaigns which recruit sufficient new supporters to replace those lost and to grow the database in order to achieve planned growth in income as outlined in the MCCC strategic plan. Continually negotiate with agency suppliers to ensure we achieve our targets for campaign Return on Investment.

4.  Supporter Development and Retention

Develop and implement programmes specifically aimed at developing the long term relationships with and income from supporters, with the objective of improving retention. To include the by our side supporter magazine; mail, telephone, e-mail and broadcast media donor appeals; committed giving, welcoming and thanking activities and maximising tax efficient giving. And support other teams (e.g. Legacy team) to manage mailing programmes.

5.  Performance Management:

Monitor and regularly review the performance of campaigns against the agreed plan and budgets. Undertake further analysis as required, and adjust plans where necessary to ensure the success of campaigns. Manage the Appeals Management Schedule and ensure that all other MCCC Departments are aware of the mailing programme.

6.  Communications:

Continually identify ways to improve communications and manage relationships with external suppliers (like Direct Marketing and telemarketing agencies) and other MCCC teams to ensure that campaigns are delivered on brand, to budget, support the key MCCC messages and Integrated Marketing Strategy. In particular ensure that all relevant MCCC teams are aware of activity and as conflicts of activity arise negotiate to achieve the most effective combination of activity.

7. Project Management

Lead, participate or represent Direct Giving in MCCC wide projects as required from time to time, (e.g. new projects, events)

7.  Supporter Care

Ensure that all supporters are receiving the highest standard of supporter care by developing and regularly reviewing processes and standards with the Support Services and Database Services teams, and supporting the development of excellent supporter stewardship.

8.  Selection, Reporting and Analysis

Develop the data selection process to select campaign data through modelling and continue to refine complex data selection processes. Contribute to MCCC’s data protection and selection process design. Manage and develop campaign reporting and analysis with Database Services and Finance to ensure regular and accurate campaign, financial and database reporting to inform decision making. Support the development of retention analysis and Lifetime Value reporting. Manage the team to deliver accurate and regular campaign evaluation.

9.  Centre of Excellence

Be the acknowledged expert on Direct Marketing and donor development within MCCC. Advise and coach the team and develop the knowledge and experience within the team so that they can proactively support and advise other users of Direct Marketing within MCCC on the use of Direct Marketing techniques.

Salary £38,648 to £42,941 per annum plus London Allowance of £2,550
