JOB TITLE: Retail Manager

REPORTING TO: General Manager, Fane Valley Stores

LOCATION: Fane Valley Head Office, Moira

SUMMARY OF ROLE:

As a key member of the Fane Valley Stores executive team the Retail Manager will be primarily responsible for the effective day to day management and operation of the retail store network including our on line platform.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

People

· To assume direct line management responsibility for individual store managers and field sales personnel.

· To support and assist store managers’ grow and develop their store locations with clear targets to improve sales and enhance customer service etc;

· To lead, manage and motivate staff throughout the retail stores. This will include regular visits to individual store locations;

· To regularly review ‘man-power’ levels within the store network, in conjunction with HR, to ensure that the staffing levels adequately reflect the demands of the business taking account of seasonal fluctuations;

· Through training and support ensure that staff have the level of product knowledge required to inform customer buying decisions. To include the production of an annual training and development plan to meet these objectives;

· Ensure that all relevant training requirements are maintained and renewed as required e.g. fork lift training, SQP, fire procedures etc.

Products

· To work in conjunction with other team members to proactively manage the product range, filtering out slow moving or redundant lines and introducing new products, where appropriate.

· To develop a product layout and merchandising plan for each store which seeks to make efficient use of shelf displays and maximise sales reflecting seasonal priorities;

· To ensure that stores effectively manage returned goods and items requiring repair.

Web

· To contribute, as part of the wider Stores team, to the continual development of our on-line trading platform.

· To assume responsibility for the effective operation of the on-line store including development of new business, customer retention, delivery performance, promotions etc.

Communications & Marketing

· To develop a communications and marketing plan with an associated budget for Stores and the website in conjunction with the General Manager and Group Communications Manager. The plan will seek to build awareness of the Fane Valley Stores business and communicate promotional offers, seasonal events etc;

· To assume responsibility for arranging Store Open Days as and when deemed appropriate.

Financial

· Prepare annually individual store budgets in conjunction with the Fane Valley Stores financial controller for executive management and Board use;

· Agree key performance measures and develop systems to monitor performance against targets;

· Ensure that appropriate monthly operational reports for each store are delivered accurately and on-time;

· Support and assist the finance team in the effective management of customer credit by ensuring individual store managers complete follow-up actions, as required;

· Prepare cost/benefit analysis in support of any requests for capital expenditure within the store network;

· Ensure the effective operation of agreed stock control protocols including rotational stock counts.

IT

· To assist and advise on the development of our IT systems with a view to delivering improved customer service or greater efficiencies and/or system controls;

Strategy

· Actively contribute to the strategic development of Fane Valley Stores bringing challenge to the status quo and constantly seeking to advance and improve everything we do.

· To play an active role in the delivery of agreed strategic objectives especially as they relate to your specific areas of responsibility.

Other

· To promote a strong health & safety culture across the business;

· To ensure that the store environments are kept clean and tidy;

· To represent the company at exhibitions, trade shows etc. as required.
