POSTION: Site Safety Advisor

Black & McDonald Limited is continuing to grow and we are actively seeking a Site Safety Advisor to evaluate and monitor health and safety hazards and develop strategies to control risks on job sites. They inspect construction, industrial, and commercial and other workplaces to ensure compliance with company, client, and government policies, procedures and regulations regarding sanitation, pollution control, the handling and storage of hazardous substances and workplace safety. This newly created position is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Responsibilities:

· Conduct surveys and monitor programs of the natural environment to identify sources of pollution

· Conduct safety and environmental audits

· Investigate health and safety related complaints, spills of hazardous chemicals, outbreaks of diseases or poisonings and workplace accidents

· Inspect workplaces to ensure that equipment, materials and production processes do not present a safety or health hazard to employees or to the general public

· Develop, implement and evaluate health and safety programs and strategies

· Initiate enforcement procedures in conjunction with Project Managers

· Provide consultation and deliver training programs to employees on issues of health, environmental protection or workplace safety

· Administration/management of loss control program for Electrical & Utility Region

· Coordinate/Assist site activity and ensure that the duties, responsibilities, and authority are clearly defined

· Assist, advise and coach manager(s) and supervisors with

· Hazard identification and control

· Inspections and Investigations

· Orientations and training requirements

· Job/project safety plans and reports

· Review/perform/complete incident and inspection reports and ensure that corrective action and follow-up is taken

· Review and investigate problems not resolved by site supervisors and contractors

· Establish inspection and meeting schedules

· Coordinate the development of safe work practices and job procedures

· Maintain inventory of safe work practices and job procedures

· Ensure that appropriate practices and procedures are provided to supervisory staff

· Conduct random work site inspections to ensure compliance with company policy and legislation

· Conduct scheduled workplace audits as deemed necessary

· Review the maintenance of safety equipment

Requirements:

· A bachelor's degree or college diploma in a discipline such environmental studies, or health and safety would be preferred

· 5 years of related work experience may substitute for formal education (may include experience in the Electrical and Utility trades)

· High level of working knowledge and experience with provincial legislation, safety related requirements in interpreting OHS regulations, and safety codes

· Solid understanding of construction safety standards and practices

· Site Safety Advisor may eventually be required to become certificated with the Association for Canadian Registered Safety Professionals
