Our Mission – Glorifying God by making disciples

of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

SPECIAL PRAYER CONCERN

Mrs. Louise Short, the oldest member of McKendree Church, passed away June 24, at the age of 110. Louise Baird was born in 1906 and raised on an Indiana dairy farm. In 1926 she married Roy Hunter Short, a young Methodist preacher. Roy became a bishop for the Florida and Cuba region in 1948 and later served over a decade as secretary for the Council of Bishops of the United Methodist Church.

Louise found great joy and satisfaction with the many enduring associations she had with the United Methodist Church. She travelled all over the world for meetings and absorbed every bit of adventure and friendship possible along the way. Louise remained interested and compassionate about the United Methodist Church and proudly attended every meeting of the General Conference from 1939 to 2012.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 6 at 3pm at West End UMC. The family will receive visitors following the service.

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES are regularly at 9am and 11am. Our current sermon series is called “Invitation: Accepted!” As followers of Jesus we are called to an invitation by handing over our lives for a life of liberation and eternal life. Daily we experience moments of God's incredible offering in the form of an invitation of grace. By living a life of invitation, by being the invitation of Jesus Christ to others, we become the embodiment of our living Savior. We get the honor of extending the invitation to join Jesus in the neighborhood where we reside. This Sunday we will conclude this sermon series. Our next series will be “Choosing the Sacramental (Simple) Life!”

THE ENCOUNTER@EDGEHILL is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-generational, and multi-class movement and extension ministry of McKendree for the purpose of building bridges of hope through the love of Jesus Christ. In risky, vulnerable small group conversations around tables we seek to confront issues of privilege, racism, and classism that divide us and to hear the call to God’s beloved community. The Encounter@Edgehill meets at 6PM the first Sunday of each month at the Edgehill Café, 1201 Villa Place, Nashville, 37212. Contact Rev. Stephen Handy () or Rick Quinn () for more details.
