Director of Family Life Ministry

Job Description

Title: Director of Family Life Ministries

Reports to: Pastor(s), Family Life Ministry Board and councilpersons as required.

Position Description: Develop and coordinate a Christ centered Family Life program for families and their children.

Position Results Description (PRD): Families that are connected to Christ and to Grace Lutheran with a strong sense of belonging. Families that are built on a solid foundation in Christ, displaying Christ centered relationships with each other, and given support and resources to equip them to encounter the world around them.

B. General Duties and Responsibilities:

The Family Life Ministry person is a staff person of Grace and he/she should possess and demonstrate Christian faith and commitment to his/her calling. This person is expected to participate in the life and community of Grace Lutheran including church membership, and agrees with Grace Lutheran's core beliefs.

Honors God with his/her attitude, speech and actions. This person must demonstrate the aptitude and skills to communicate, motivate, inspire, and challenge.

Gives Christian support to the other staff members in action and word as in Philippians 1:27a (“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”) and Philippians 2:1-4 (“If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition and vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”).

C. Detailed Responsibilities:

1. Develop strong relationships with our church families.

2. Lead in reaching out to church visitors and families in the neighborhood, connecting them to the different ministries at Grace.

3. In cooperation with the pre-school directors, build relationships with the children and families of Grace Preschool.

4. In cooperation with the pre-school and youth ministry provide resources and classes for biblically sound parenting and discipleship skills.

5. Meets regularly with the Pastor and other staff members when needed.

6. Coordinate with the Pastor, Church Secretary, Youth Director, and others to ensure all programs are consistent with the vision and mission of the church and do not conflict with other programming schedules.

7. Create, plan and organize small groups for couples, providing a place where their relationship with the Lord and each other can be nourished and a place to connect with others for mutual support.

8. Assist Pastor in facilitating marriage seminars.

9. Provide monthly activities for families such as "couples night out" or "family night."

10. Facilitate monthly Family Life Ministry committee meetings.

11. With the Family Life Ministry Committee, coordinate and direct volunteers to support Family Life Ministry activities.

12. When necessary, submits information to the church office secretary for inclusion in the weekly bulletin and monthly newsletter.

13. Provide a monthly report to church council through the council member assigned to the Family Life Ministry.

14. Perform other duties as assigned.
