Cribsheet 1: Typing Text Onto a Flipchart Page

Tutorial on:

· Drawing and filling shapes in a flip chart

· Using UNDO

· Retrieving a named flip chart

1. Load Active Studio

2. On the Toolbox, click “Show Flipchart”

3. There are some basic shape annotations in the Tool box:
Click on the shape you want to draw.
Click and drag the shape into your flipchart page
If you make a mistake, click UNDO

4. To fill the shape:
Click on the ADD FILL POINT tool in the flipchart tool strip
Choose the colour you want from the Toolbox
Click inside the shape you want to fill

5. To resize the shape:
Click on the MARQUEE SELECT tool from the Toolbox
Click on the shape or drag an rectangle area around it
Click and hold one of the handles (small Squares) that surround the shape and drag them to resize. (If you make a mistake, click UNDO )

6. To rotate the shape:
Select the shape as above.
Find the yellow rotation point (the pointer will change to )
Hold down the mouse/pen and begin to rotate the shape.

7. Make a few flip chart pages with a number of rotated basic shapes.

8. Shapes can also be found from the annotation library:

Click on the toolbar
Click on the dropdown menu and use the scroll bars to find the category you would like.
Once you have chosen your category, you can draw, resize, colour and rotate shapes in exactly the same way as before.

9. Another place to find shapes is in the resources library:

Click on in the flipchart tool strip
Click Shared resources
Also click Image library
In the PRIMARY section, under NUMERACY you will find a folder called SHAPES. Within this folder are a number of different categories of shapes. For example Cubes. Once clicked, you will see the contents of that category. To use a shape, simply drag it into your Flipchart.
You will be able to resize but not always rotate these images.

10. To save the flip chart, first click MENU on the TOOLBAR, then click FLIPCHART, then click SAVE. Choose, SAVE AS NAMED FILE.

11. Give your flipchart a name then click SAVE.

12. Now close Active Studio and reload it.

13. To open a previously saved file first click MENU on the TOOLBAR, then click FLIPCHART, then click Open named. You will find your saved file here.
