The Scholarship
This fund was established in 2003 to honor the memory and life’s work of Ariana R. “Mamá Ariana” Ulloa so that she may continue to live in the hearts of all she would have touched with her love.
Ariana was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, on July 10, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Alejandro Olavarrieta and Maria Luz Posadas. A graduate of high school in Tampico, Mexico, she received her bachelor of science in chemical engineering from the National University of Mexico in Mexico City. Ariana moved to Athens with her family in 1986 and quickly endeared herself to the church and the community. In 1990, she was hired by Hocking College’s Department of International Programs, where she eventually became director.
The scholarship fund is to support international students or students pursuing international studies or majors that are enrolled in degree programs of colleges and universities such as Hocking College, Ohio University, DeVry University, and/or others as may be appropriate.
The scholarship is to provide financial assistance to international students or students enrolled in a degree program associated with international studies for expenses to cover tuition, fees, books, supplies, and required equipment.
Eligibility for the scholarship grants shall be limited to international students or students enrolled in international studies. Educational institutions where students are enrolled or expected to enroll will administer the scholarship funds on behalf of the award recipient. Applications for the scholarship will be reviewed by the Ulloa Scholarship Fund Advisory Committee.
