Who am I?

Have your class work together to make riddles for people in the Mass. Then have the students take turns reading their riddles to the class. Or you can play this game using the riddles below.

Directions: Divide the class into 2 teams. Each team is represented by who is sitting at the table. Ask a question to a team member from team one. If they answer correctly, that team gets a point. If they are incorrect, team 2 is asked the same question. If they are correct, they get the point, if they are incorrect, ask the next player from team one. Tally correct answers on the board for each team. (You can write a word list on the board for the students to pick from if it is needed).

1. I am your celebrant. I lead everyone to celebrate the Mass. I wear certain clothes called vestments. Who am I? Priest.

2. I am an ordained person ranking below a priest. Who am I? Deacon.

3. We are boys or girls who want to show their love for God in a special way by helping at Mass. We help the priest at the altar. We light candles, carry the cross, hold the Sacramentary and do anything else we are asked to do during the Mass. Who are we? Altar servers.

4. We are a group of singers that are in front of the church or up in the balcony. Who are we? Choir.

5. I am the person who sings solo (alone) and leads the special parts of the Mass. Who am I? Cantor.

6. We are the people who play musical instruments, including the piano, organ, violins, and other instruments. Who are we? Musicians.

7. I am the person who helps keep all of the music, the singers, the cantor, and everyone singing together. Who am I? Choir Director.

8. We are the people who help the priest give out the blessed bread and wine of Communion. Who are we? Eucharist Ministers.

9. I am the person who brings the Lectionary to the front in the Opening Procession and who reads the first and second reading. Who am I? Lector.

10. We are the people who say hello and make the people feel welcome in the church. We can guide you to your seats and we help collect the offerings. Who are we? Greeters/Ushers.

11. I am the server responsible for the thurible. Who am I? The Thurifer.

12. We are a group of people who have gathered together for a religious service. Who are we? Congregation.
