Commonwealth Honors College Curriculum

FOR STUDENTS ADMITTED TO UMASS PRIOR TO SUMMER 2013

3.400 minimum cumulative GPA and 45 graded residence credits required

The FULL CHC curriculum includes

a General Studies component and an Advanced Scholarship component (see below).

The General Studies Component
focuses on breadth of study

Most CHC students in good standing continue in CHC by pursuing the Advanced Scholarship component below. **

UMass students who are not yet members of CHC may apply to CHC via the CHC online application.

The Advanced Scholarship Component
focuses on preparation for the honors thesis or project
Departmental Honors*** (DH) / Multidisciplinary Honors (MH)
A Departmental Honors (DH) program is the best choice for students who wish to pursue
·  Advanced scholarship in their major
·  Graduate studies in their major or related field
·  A career related to their major

Requires a Multidisciplinary Honors Faculty Sponsor Contract

*Current CHC members completing the CHC full-curriculum as well as applicants to the CHC full-curriculum may fulfill this requirement with college-writing exemptions approved by UMass Amherst.

Additionally, an applicant to the CHC full-curriculum may satisfy this requirement with a previously completed course accepted by UMass as fulfilling the college-writing requirement, provided that a grade of B or higher was earned (e.g. ENGLWRIT 112 or a transferred writing course).

** Honors students who do not complete the Advanced Scholarship component and who therefore do not complete the full CHC curriculum may explore earning the graduation credential General Studies Honors.
