MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 19, 2017 MEETING

Roger Nelson, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. He welcomed Lauren Attonello, intern from Goodwin College who will be working with the Senior Center Director.

MEMBER’S PRESENT: Roger Nelson, Chairman, Sue Cannon, Cindy Cooper, Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham, Vice-Chairman, Peter Lambert, Connie Nelson, Emily Ahern and Barbara Sullivan.

ALSO PRESENT: Ann Marie Claffey, Director, Lori Lapointe, Assist. to Director, John Sullivan, Municipal Agent, and Lauren Attonello, Intern.

ABSENT: Douglas Glazier

PUBLIC: None

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Upon a motion by Cindy Cooper, and seconded by Sue Cannon, the June 19, 2017 minutes were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Treasurers Report/Budget and CONA Fund Report provided by the Finance Department as of August 31, 2017. Discussion followed on account financial information and current budget situation.

BUS COORDINATOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the June, July and August, 2017 report. Discussion on passes, mileage, shuttle service, ridership, trips, drivers, schedules, and driver hours. Also discussed rejection of our new bus application to the State and the fact that we are next in line should any of the approved towns have to withdraw.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Director’s Report.

Ø  Programs and Upcoming events: In honor of National Senior Center Month (September) weekly prizes and free ice cream on Tuesdays are being offered. Tai Chi classes are being offered again. Programs include: It’s Time to Talk -Veterans Benefits discussion (9-28), East Meets West Luncheon (9-21) and Tech Assistance (9-26). Center bus trips: Big E (9-20) and Westbrook Shopping (9-27).

Charter Trips include: Ray of Elvis Show (9/19), Vermont Fit for a King (10-12), Lancaster Christmas (11/27-29), Celtic Thunder Foxwoods (12-2), Christmas Memories Dean Martin Show (12/4), Radio City Christmas NYC (12-6). Monthly Casino trips to Foxwoods and Mohegan.

Ø  Cemetery bus trips are continuing monthly as long as we have good weather.

Ø  Locks Fitness Center had approximately 401 visits in June, 390 in July and 376 in August.

COMMITTEE REPORT AND ACTIONS:

a)  Transportation Committee. Ann Marie Claffey reported a Drivers meeting was held after the last CONA meeting in June to discuss lift procedures. Several CONA members attended and participated in demonstrations of correct procedures.

MUNICIPAL AGENT REPORT: John Sullivan reported the October SCAN will have information and a contact number for Understanding Pension Plans from UMASS Boston. Tip of the Month is about new Medicare Cards being issued with Medicare Identifier Numbers rather than a Social Security Number. The November SCAN report will include information on Veterans Benefits.

OLD BUSINESS:

a)  By-Laws Update: The group reviewed each section of the Transportation and Senior Center Policies and Procedures as well as the CONA By-Laws reviewing recommended changes and bringing sections up-to-date.

NEW BUSINESS:

Roger Nelson announced that Diane Allen, our Recording Secretary, will be resigning. She will stay for a couple of months to assist with the transition. CONA thanked Diane for her service and we all wish her the best for her future.

CHAIRMAN'S REMARKS:

·  October 16, 2017 is our next CONA meeting.

·  The By-Laws will be updated and discussed at the next meeting with a vote to accept at the November meeting. Officer positions will also be filled in November.
