December Choice Boards

DirectionsPlease date the choice box as your child completes an activity. Remember, activities should not be repeated. Send your child’s completed work to school each day. If your child completes an activity that is hands-on and cannot be brought in to school, pictures of your child completing the activity are always welcome. Send pictures to: ank you! 

Language/Sight Words

Practice saying and writing these words and two more that rhyme with: dog, cat, wet, sun, hit. / Place your sight words cards on the floor randomly. Play Pick-up, I Spy. An adult will say ‘I spy’ (naming the sight word) and the child picks it up. The child gains points, pennies, hugs, or stickers for each word. / Slowly speak the sounds of the following words to hear the sounds.Write each sound you hear to make the words:tin, pan, cut, bed, hog. / Write the sight words in a Hop Scotch pattern. An adult calls out the word and the child gains points or pennies or stickers for the sight words he/she can hop to and say.
Write your sight words using chalk, paint, or markers. / Use playdough to form your sight words. / Write, sound out and draw a picture for the following words: sad, net, ten, tub, bag, sun, rug, pan, red, mop. / Write these color words and show a dot of color beside each: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, brown.
Write the word map and then change the first letter to make new rhyming words. See how many you can make. / Type and email your sight words to your teacher at: / Have an adult scramble up each of your sight words on a sheet of paper. Write them correctly beside the scrambled form. / Create your own project or activity using your sight words.

Math

Rote count to 35 with someone while clapping hands. / Draw a triangle and a square tell your parent how they are the same and how they are different. / Draw a rectangle and a trapezoid and tell how they are the same and how they are different. / Write the numbers 11-19and illustrate each with
sets of circles.
Write the numbers 18-32 in a Hop Scotch pattern. An adult calls out the number and the child gains points or pennies or stickers for the numbers he/she can hop to and say. / Draw 2 number sets of 14 and 17. Draw lines to match the sets and circle the set that is greater. / Draw 3 ways to make 8 using yellow and red circles. Example: 2 & 6, 4 & 4,
3 & 5. Make yellow circles for the first number and red for the second. / Draw sets of circles or lines for11- 20 in flour, sugar, finger paint, or sand.
Write 2 numbers
(between 1 – 10)on 5 lines of the paper. The child should circle the number that is the greatest on each line. / Draw a long bug with 16 legs. / Draw 4 smiley faces and draw more stars to make ten. How many more stars did you have to draw? / Draw a picture of an apple tree showing red and yellow apples to represent 2 and 6 more apples on the tree.
