COMMONWEALTH CHILD CARE CREDENTIAL

Secondary students can obtain a Commonwealth Child Care Certificate when completing this class. The Commonwealth Child Care Certificate offers an exciting opportunity for students to follow the career path from child development classes into the world of work. Early care and education settings in our community can benefit from the knowledge, skills, energy and creativity of high school graduates. Appropriate documentation of course work will allow potential employers to know the level and extent of the student’s training and preparation. These documented hours will also apply to the state recognized Commonwealth Child Care Credential which in Kentucky is the foundation for the nationally recognized Child Development Associate (CDA).

Because more child care centers are participating in the STARS for KIDS NOW quality rating program, there is an increasing need for qualified and credentialed employees. Students can take advantage of this fast track to the Commonwealth Child Care Credential in a rapidly professionalized field of early care and education.

To obtain the Commonwealth Child Care Credential students will take the certificate presented to them upon completion of Child Development Services I class to the local resource and referral agency here in Mayfield , submit the certificate, show proof of age 18, and acquire work in a child care center with no minimum numbers of weekly hours. The resource and referral office will send the certificate to the state department. The state department will send the student the CCCC.
