HE BLINDED US WITH SCIENCE!

Many thanks to Mr. Tom Misiak, our district Supervisor of Science and Technology, for sharing our new elementary science program (Knowing Science) and the new national standards for science (Next Generation Science Standards) at our General PTO meeting this past Wednesday. Thank you to Dr. Brian Heineman, Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Principal Ciempola for their participation. And thank you to all who came out for this important talk! If you were unable to attend you can watch the presentation in its entirety by clicking on the following link. https://youtu.be/mJhbfKSdMNg and you can follow along with the attached Elementary Science Curriculum Presentation (see below).

AND THE WINNER IS…..

Congratulations to Lisa Szikman, who won the PTO Spooktacular Parking Spot Raffle Friday, after Mr. Ciempola pulled the winning ticket. This spot will be designated to the winner for the remainder of the school year. Thank you to all who purchased tickets and took part in the raffle.

CHS FALL BOOK FAIR COMING

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Like the changing of leaves and crisp fall days, we can also look forward to the Fall Book Fair coming our way soon! Students and families will have an opportunity to preview hundreds of books, make wish lists, donate books to a class library and make purchases during the Parent/Teacher Conference dates: November 17-22.

As always, it takes many volunteers to make the fair a success. We are in need of Chair for the Day Volunteers. By signing up for this position, you are simply committing to work the entire day- NO EXTRA RESPONSIBILITIES. It just allows us to have 1 consistent person for the whole day. We also always need regular shift volunteers. (Please see the schedule below.) No experience necessary and you can bring your children with you. A table will be set up for them to do their homework, watch a movie or play games on their electronics or even better, they can HELP at the fair! The students love using the scanner and bagging books for our customers. We are also happy to give service hours to any older siblings who help! Please see the schedule below and then click on the sign up to volunteer. www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084ca5a72ca0f58-cedar

SEND US YOUR CHS PICS!

Have you ever noticed the bulletin board of pictures by the front office? There are a few volunteers that try to get to all the main events, but if you take a picture and would like to see it featured on the board, send a copy to . Anything from field trips to in class events are welcome. As long as the picture is at a school event with only CHS kids, it will be considered. Thanks and say cheese!

STILL TIME TO JOIN THE PTO!

If you haven’t joined yet there is still time. See attachment for details on how we use the dues. After October 31, access to the AtoZ Directory (both online and via the mobile app) will only be available to paid PTO members. In addition, members will receive the printed directory. If you have verified your data on the AtoZ site and still want to pay PTO dues and purchase the directory, you can: log on to your account via www.schooldirectoryupdate.com and select the option for "PURCHASES"; you can submit a check for $35 written to the CHS PTO in an envelope marked with your child's name, teacher, and grade on it; or you can pay your dues in person at the next general PTO meeting, Oct 26th. In return, you will receive your printed directory in your child's backpack as well as the online version and mobile app. All recently paid directories have been sent home in your child's backpack.

Please contact Michelle Song () with all directory questions.

Our second place class was Mrs. Lacaillade's class with 744 Box Tops and third place goes to Mrs. DeFilippis's class with 729! Amazing! Our top earners were Anna Ortiz, from Mrs. Perdek's class, in first place with 764 Box Tops, and Tally Lake in Mr. Boudreau's class in second place with 395 Box Tops. Finishing in a very close third place was Amelia Kleinle from Mrs. Smerillo's class with 379 Box Tops. All three have earned a gift card from Learning Express for all of their hard work! Congratulations to our winners. Finally, thank you to Lauren Salko for all of your hard work counting and sorting the Box Tops.

Thank you to all who cut, clipped, glued and saved those Box Tops for our Fall contest. Everyone did a great job. That means $1000 more in programs and products that your kids can enjoy and benefit from at Cedar Hill School. Remember to KEEP CLIPPING!! Our Winter contest and more chances to win will start at the end of January. Any questions, please contact the BOX TOPS Committee at .

A special thank you to Lauren Salko and Ryan Parker for chairing the Box Top Committee!
