ETE Project – Brent, Harrow & Ealing

Background Information

Introduction

This new project will be funded for 3 years by the Big Lottery Fund to support our service users (drugs and alcohol, domestic violence, mental health) to develop the skills and confidence to take up and benefit from ETE opportunities. The project comprises of a Project Co-ordinator, 2 Employment coaches, an online tutor, an administrator and a counsellor. There is also a strong peer volunteering element to the project, as well as in-work support to help participants to sustain employment, further training and education, including volunteering. The project is intended to deliver 60% of its outputs in the London Borough of Brent, 20% in Ealing and 20% in Harrow. The team’s main location will be EACH’s centre in Wembley, but work across these 3 boroughs is expected, as well as out of hours work through on-line support.

About EACH

Organisational Profile

EACH is a voluntary sector organisation with over a 21 year track record of providing specialist counselling and support services to individuals and family members affected by alcohol and drug misuse and domestic violence and mental health concerns.

We operate across West London (Brent, Ealing, Hounslow, Harrow, Hillingdon) as well as through outreach based satellites in Kingston-upon-Thames, Richmond, Wandsworth and Merton as part of Violence against Women and Girls consortium. EACH provides a range of community based services, having developed specialist services to meet the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic communities who experience cultural and linguistic barriers to mainstream services.

EACH is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. Established in 1991, the organisation is recognised both locally and nationally for the innovative work it has pioneered in delivering alcohol and mental health services, primarily, to Asian communities in West London.

Our Services

London Borough of Brent

Brent is located in North-west London and is a borough that is culturally diverse with a significant ethnic population of approximately 57%. Information on the borough can be found on the www.brent.gov.uk website. EACH Brent is located within a health and care centre in Wembley, from 1 April providing advice, information, domestic violence counselling, Young person’s substance misuse service within the YOT and an ETE project recently funded by Big Lottery, with the latter supporting clients across Brent, Harrow and Ealing.

London Borough of Harrow

The borough is located in North-west London, bordering a number of other London boroughs - Ealing, Brent, Barnet, and Hillingdon – as well as the county of Hertfordshire.

Harrow is a culturally diverse borough with an ethnic population of approximately 41%, with the Asian population being the largest at 30% of all residents. The Black (African or Caribbean) makes up 7% of the population and recently, newer communities have established in particular parts of the borough – Somali, Afghani and Tamil speaking. Information on the borough can be accessed on www.harrow.gov.uk

The core service in Harrow is the co-ordination and delivery of drug and alcohol psycho-social interventions, namely one to one counselling, brief interventions and an abstinence based 12 week day care programme.

London Borough of Hillingdon

Hillingdon is the most westerly borough that is increasingly becoming diverse with population changes due to an influx of the Somali and Polish communities, in addition to a better established Asian community. Information on the borough can be accessed at www.hillingdon.gov.uk

EACH currently operates on an outreach basis, delivering 3 adult services on mental health (Tamil community), khat (Somali community) and domestic violence.

London Borough of Hounslow

Hounslow is located in West London and is a borough that is culturally diverse with a significant ethnic population of approximately 35%. Information on the borough can be found on www.hounslow.gov.uk. Our services are currently provided on an outreach basis and through satellite locations. The components of our core service in Hounslow are:

· Floating support service for people at risk of losing their tenancies or becoming homeless

· Domestic violence counselling

· User-led Mental Health Resource Service – funded by Hounslow Council

London Borough of Ealing

Information on the borough can be found on www.ealing.gov.uk. Our services in Ealing are primarily abstinence based, providing a structured day programme, an open group programme and counselling to help drug and alcohol clients become and remain abstinent. It has recently expanded due to a successful consortium bid, led by CRI and now provides the abstinence based part of RISE.

Our centre in Ealing is also our training centre and delivers OCN accredited training primarily to service users interested in becoming peer volunteers.

Violence against women and girls service

This operates in all the boroughs we work within as above, as well as in London Boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Wandsworth and Merton. Counselling is provided through satellites in partnership with other agencies.
