About tutti frutti

tutti frutti productions (formerly known as Axis Dance) was founded in 1991. The company’s work is aimed specifically at family audiences (children over 3 and their families) for which it has built up a strong brand with a high quality product and excellent reputation

Whilst staying true to its core, tutti frutti developed to much acclaim a series of mid-scale theatre productions during its residency at the Lawrence Batley Theatre. Since 2008 the company has been based in Leeds, focusing its energy on exploring and developing its core activity of small-scale touring productions nationally and internationally as well as sustaining its fruitful partnership with York Theatre Royal.

The company performs in a host of different venues undertaking around 250performances a year. Venues range from studio theatres of producing venues to art centres, schools and rural touring schemes. At Christmas the company carries out 3-4 week runs in small to midscale venues.

In addition to touring, tutti frutti co-produces the Little Feet Festival of Children’s Theatre with York Theatre Royal every two years.

When funding allows, the company also produces development programmes to nurture new writers with partners; Sheffield Theatres, Dukes Lancaster, Manchester Royal Exchange, Liverpool Everyman/Playhouse and Freedom Studios. With a focus on diversity the last First Words (2013) achieved a richly diverse group of writers from different cultural backgrounds, gender and social economic positions alongside culturally diverse groups of artists delivering the programme.
