SUMMER Reading/PROJECT

“CURRENT EVENTS ScrapBOOK”
Purpose: to help students become familiar with current environmental topics as they are reported in the print and electronic media. For this project each student will collect, read, and summarize current newspaper, magazine, and/or internet articles related to the topic of environmental science.
Your Current Events Notebook should consist of a total of 25 articles related to some aspect of environmental science (see list below) or the political debates concerning environmental issues. Each article selected should be at least four paragraphs long and chosen from reputable and well-known print or electronic sources. If questions, email me at .
You must have at least one (1) article covering each of the following topics. (Some will have more).

How to put it together: The following is highly suggested. Other ways will be accepted provided neatness and professionalism are evident.
1) Each article must be mounted on construction paper using glue or tape (but not
staples) and placed securely inside a three-ring notebook. (Scrapbook equivalent
ok).
2) Each page should include the date and source of the article as well as the topic heading (see
table above) neatly written on the top of each page.
3) Each article should be summarized (approximately 25- 50 words) on a 3 X 5 index card
affixed to the same page. Each summary should be written in complete sentences using proper spelling and grammar.
4) Each completed page should be numbered (from 1-25). A table of contents should be
provided.
5) Make sure you have a cover page, which includes your name, class and other identifying
information. Cover art highly recommended.
The scrapbook will be collected at the beginning of the school year (during 1st week up until September 7th). It will represent a portion of the quarter 1 grade (Actual percentage T.B.D)
Scrapbooks will lose One (1) full letter grade for each week late. For example, 1 letter if collected week of 9/12-9/14, two (2) letter grades week of 9/19 to 9/21 and three (3) week of 9/26 to 9/28. No scrapbooks will be accepted after September 28, 2017.
