POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA OF REGIONAL ANESTHESIA AND ANALGESIA

The WFSA is offering funding to allow two young anaesthesiologists from less affluent countries in Africa and the Asian region to complete the Postgraduate Diploma of Regional Anaesthesia and Analgesia offered by the University of Montpellier in Dubai. The Diploma is also supported by the Government of Dubai and the Dubai Health Authority. The course directors are Dr Philippe Macaire (Dubai) and Prof Xavier Capdevila (France).

This Diploma covers all fields of regional anaesthesia, analgesia and post-operative pain management. The course will be taught during five short visits (3-5 days) to Dubai during January-June 2017. It comprises theoretical teaching, hands-on workshops and a clinical attachment.

Scholarship criteria

·  The applicant must be working full time in a country in Africa and the Asian region. The scholarship is aimed at anaesthesiologists working in low-resource settings.

·  The applicant should be aged 40 or less.

·  This application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s National Anaesthesiology Society.

·  The application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s head of department or hospital management.

·  Preference will be given to applicants who have completed training within 10 years and are working in a teaching hospital.


The scholarship will cover:

·  Return airfares to Dubai

·  Course fees

·  A contribution towards accommodation and other expenses in Dubai

Notes

·  All airfares and transit accommodation (if required) will be booked by WFSA’s travel agent. Overland travel costs will be considered if cheaper or more convenient than airfares.

·  The successful applicant is responsible for organising and paying for:

o  Travel visas or other documentation

o  Travel to and from the airport of departure

o  Appropriate travel and health insurance

o  All other costs, including income taxes or other fees

·  The scholarship may not cover all accommodation and living expenses in Dubai.

·  The scholar is required to submit a report no later than one month after completion of the Diploma, with a follow-up questionnaire after one year.

Application process

·  All applications must be submitted by email to by the 23rd October 2016.

·  Applications will be considered by a panel of anaesthesiologists selected by WFSA, and successful applicants will be informed by the 7th of November.

·  Successful applicants must confirm their intention to take up the scholarship within 7 days. Failure to do so will result in the scholarship being offered to the next applicant.
