A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Robert "Bob" Ray.

WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Ray was born in 1928 to the late Carl Ray and Garnett Arnold; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ray graduated in 1948 from Kentucky Military Institute, in where he was an outstanding athlete and inducted into the Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Kentucky, graduated from Officers Cadet School in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, at the rank of 1st Lieutenant, and served in the Army; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ray was a pioneer in arboriculture and inspired many with his love for trees. He started the Bob Ray Company in 1960, was the co-founder of the Kentucky Shade Tree Association, now known as the Kentucky Arborists Association, and was the past president of the American Society of Consulting Arborists. He assisted in the replanting of trees in urban Louisville after the 1974 tornado in connection with Trees Incorporated Association; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ray, in addition to his love for trees, was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and had a passion for bass fishing. He officiated high school football and raced figure 8 and stock cars at Kentucky Fairgrounds Motor Speedway. He was also a past champion of the Tennessee Drag Boat Association; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ray departed this earthly life on December 27, 2013, at the age of 85, leaving behind a lasting legacy of service to his family, his friends, and his community; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ray was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Ray, and his parents, Carl Ray and Garnett Arnold. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Louise Ray; three children, Karen Jefferies, Kathy Ray, and Tee Ray and his wife, Toni; four grandchildren, Ashley Lanham and her husband, Mike, Brian Wallace and his wife, Lindsey, Miranda Ray, and Georgia Ray; four great-grandchildren; and three siblings, David Ray, Carl Ray, and Sally Lilly. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The Senate does hereby express its most profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Robert "Bob" Ray, and extends its sincerest condolences to his beloved family and friends.

âSection 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Robert "Bob" Ray.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Carl Ray, 1001 South Buckeye Lane, Louisville, Kentucky 40241.
