This document will provide you with details regarding the classroom, my expectations, grading,and materials to bring to every class period. Also attached is a student release form. Please have this signed by your parent and turn it in next class.

Course Description

This course is designed to aid in every students understanding of the natural and living world. The course will be guided by inquiry or asking questions. For this reason it is very important to come to class willing to ask questions. Throughout this course students will learn, practice and be assessed on content pertaining but not limited to the following; Ecology and Ecosystems, Evolution, Genetics, Cellular Energetics and Physiology.

Teacher’s Expectations

Students will be positive, polite, proud, productive, prompt and prepared.

Students will respect property, themselves, and others right to learn.

Students will adhere to lab safety rules during every lab.

Students will keep all electronic devices OFF and inside their backpacks.

Students will not eat or drink in the classroom. Water is the exception

Students will not cheat/share answers with others. This will result in a NP and a conference with parents.

Materials must be brought to every class.

  • Students must have a3-ringed binder,science notebook, highlighter, colored pencils, and a sharpened pencil or pen.
  • Students must come to class with a postive attitude.

Students will be graded on the following:

notebook checks, homework, quizzes, unit exams and projects

GRADE SCALE

4-Advanced / 84-100% / Know what it is, how it works, why we care, able to make connections.
3-Proficient / 66-83.9% / Know what it is, how it works, sometimeswhy we care, some connections.
2-Basic / 50-65.9% / Know what it is and sometimeshow it works, unable to make connections
1-Non Proficient / 0-49.9% / Do not knowwhat it is and how it works.

Consequences for not following class rules or procedures

1st time: Warning

2nd time: Seat change/discuss further action

3rd time: Parent notification via phone call or teleparent and student reflection

4th time: Counselor or Principal notification.

Late or Absent Work

Late Work:Must be turned in the following class meeting unless specified by Mr. Carr.

Absences: Students who have an excused absence should do two things once they return to the class:

1)Ask a friend or check online in Mr. Carr’s File Cabinet for work

2)Schedule an appointment with Mr. Carrto come in and go over the material that you missed. Prior to the following class. YOU are responsible for getting the missed work.

For every 1 day of class you miss, you will have 2 days to make up any missing work (e.g. If you missed Monday’s class and got the work you missed on Tuesday, you would turn in all of this work by the Thursday). Failure to complete work in the allotted amount of time will result in a grade drop

*Students are only allowed 2 bathroom breaks a month. For any questions please contact Mr.Carr
