Notices for Sunday, 7 January 2018

Today at 12:00 noon in St. Margaret’s: Charity Piano Recital in aid of Childreach International by Ilinca Aricescu. Ilinca is a 20-year old student at the University of Cambridge, and a pianist who has given many public recitals as well as winning several competitions and festivals. She studied the piano at the Royal Academy of Music with Eva Doroskowska.

The piano recital here is in order to raise money for Childreach International, a global children's rights charity. Ilinca will be fundraising particularly for Childreach's projects in Tanzania. The charity operates at the community level, working in partnership with government primary schools and local communities to help improve children's access to healthcare, education, child rights and protection. They work directly with children to help them advocate for their rights, to learn in a good school, stay healthy and keep safe. They have received many awards for their work so far, including the Stars Foundation Award for Education in Africa and the Middle-East.

The recital will be 30 minutes of solo piano, including works by Chopin, Beethoven, Schubert and Liszt. Free admission with a retiring collection.

Holy Week 2018 is going to be a special time for the Benefice, as Angela Tilby is coming to be our guest preacher throughout Holy Week. So please put 25 March to 1 April in your diary. There will be our regular pattern of services and this will include a set of meditations on Good Friday. Angela has chosen the title for this series of talks to be “The death of God.”

St. Margaret’s has now raised over £1000 fromEasyfundraisingas a result of purchases made by the members of St. Margaret’s who have registered – thank you! This is a painless way to generate funds for St. Margaret’s when you shop online at a wide range of stores, book flights or holidays or purchase services such as insurance - please consider registering. More details from or take a flyer from the porch.

We are considering having St Margaret’s as a venue for Art Weeks next May. The idea would be to have a community event, with people showing their artwork – paintings, pottery, knitting, quilt work – whatever they do - on a non-selling basis. If we did this it is possible that one or two professional artists would join as “add ons” to be main event, and they would make their work available for sale.

Is anyone interested in being part of the community event? The idea is to have an exhibition that we enjoy, professional standards are not required. We would also need some volunteers to be in the Church when the event is on, possibly to serve tea and cakes to visitors.

There is now a community notice board in the porch for advertising items wanted or for sale, holiday accommodation etc. Items for the notices or pewsheet should be handed to Michael Brooker or emailed to by 12:00 pm on Thursday.
