6th Grade Book Projects

Select one of the following projects. Read the directions carefully and complete each aspect of that project. Your grade is dependent on overall quality and presentation as well as following the directions for that specific project.

Visual/Linguistic

* Create a poetry book utilizing poetry to support the plot, characterization, theme, mood, etc of the novel that you read. You must have at least six (6) different poems. Identify the poem type (haiku, sonnet, free verse, limerick, elegy, or ballad). Be sure to use at least three (3) different types of poetry.

Logical/Mathematical

* Compare and contrast two characters from your novel. Use a combination of writing and pictures to provide a very clear idea of who each character is and how they are similar and different from one another. Their characterization should be based on their personality (Who they are) not their appearance (What they look like)!

* Create a “plot grid” or “plot diagram” that identifies each plot element in the novel. The introduction, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action and the resolution should be identified with a neat and colorful picture as well as at least one paragraph explaining each section.

Musical/Rhythmic

* Create a play list of six (6) songs that relate to your novel. Include the lyrics of the song and at least a paragraph for each song explaining its connection to the novel. You may make a CD of your soundtrack in place of the written lyrics.

Visual/Spatial

* Create a diorama representing your novel. Divide a triangle structure into three sections and create a physical representation of an introductory scene, climatic moment, and resolution. Clearly label and explain each section. Each section should have at least a paragraph describing its significance.

Bodily/Kinesthetic

*Write a screenplay (including stage directions and proper punctuation) about a significant scene from the novel and act it out in front of the class. (Must be at least three minutes long) Write at least a one paragraph explanation of why/how that scene is significant in the novel and explain it to the class.

*Conduct an interview of one of the characters in your novel in front of the class. Create a list of at least ten (10) questions for the interviewer (select a friend in class to do this with you in front of the class). You will answer these questions based on your insight and knowledge of the character. The questions and answers must be provided with proper punctuation and detail.

Interpersonal

*Create a children’s version of your story. You must include at least five (5) colorful and detailed pictures and a paragraph for each picture. Your story must be understandable for a child; therefore it must be both a narrative and a summary of your novel.

Intrapersonal

*Write a journal or diary from one of the character’s points of view. Try to get inside the head of this character and document their inner most feelings about what is happening to them in the novel. The journal/diary should contain at least six (6) one or more paragraph entries.

*Analyze the pattern of moods and feelings a character goes through during the course of the novel. Write about and illustrate this evolution of emotion. At least one paragraph per emotion, and a minimum of five emotions, should be represented. Each entry should have a colorful illustration.

Naturalist

*Collect five (5) items from nature that are related to your novel. Write at least five (5) paragraphs on how these items are related to your novel. Detail and word choice should be obvious in your project.
