Dear Comrades

The preparations for holding of 6th AIC of BSNLEU, are in full swing. TheextendedCircleWorkingCommitteemeetingofBSNLEU,PunjabCircleheldon19-20June,2012,at Ludhianahas approved the Reception Committee with Prof.HSSidhu,formerChairman,PunjabSchoolEducationBoardHeadDepartmentofEconomics,Guru NanakDevUniversity its Chairman,Com.R.L.Moudgil,President, Com. Balbir Singh General Secretary, and Com. Budh Singh, Treasurer. The Reception Committee was formed in the presence of Com.P AsokaBabu,DeputyGeneralSecretary. Apart from the above leaders of CITU, PSSF Punjab, TSU {PSEB} Punjab, NRMU Ferozepur Division, PCMSRU, AIRMS & MMS EU Gr-C {NFPE}, SNEA {India}, AIGETOA, AIBSNLEA, Postal & RMS Emp. Co-Op Bank Ambala Cantt., SNATTA, Punjab Roadways Workers Union, PAU (Punjab Agriculture University) Employees Union, C-O-C Chandigarh, AIPEU Cl-III{NFPE} Punjab, AIPEU Cl-IV & Postman {NFPE} Punjab, AIRMS & MMS EUGr-D{NFPE}Punjab, AIBDPA Punjab, MSEU {PSEB} Punjab, NZIEA (LIC), Punjab Anganwari Mulazam Union, PRTC workers Union Punjab have been included in the reception committee. An advisory committee consisting of Prof. Manjit Singh Former President PUTA,Chandigarh,Dr. Balwinder Singh Punjabi University, Patiala, Prof. Jaipal Singh Govt. Collage Ludhiana, Dr. Pyare Lal Garg Former Registrar, Baba Farid University of Medical Sciences, Faridkot Punjab was also formed.

To make your stay at Ludhiana comfortable and pleasant one,12 sub committees consisting of Accommodation Committee, Food Committee, Souvenir Committee, Transport Committee, Finance Committee, Medical Committee, Reservation and tourist Information Committee , Hall Committee, Publicity and Media Committee, Cultural Committee, Guest Committee, and Volunteer Committee have also been constituted.

Punjab

Punjab the land of five rivers has the land with prosperity. The plains of Punjab, with their fertile soil and abundant water supply are naturally suited to be the breadbasket for India. The land of Punjab is a land of exciting culture. The state has achieved tremendous growth over the years due to the success of “Green Revolution”. The current state of Punjab was formed in 1966, the state was reorganised in to three smaller states- Punjab,Himachal and Haryana.Punjab is the land of Heros of freedom struggle. Punjab has the lion’s share in the struggle for the freedom of India. Majority of the martyrs of freedom struggle came from the Punjab, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Kartar Singh Sarabha, Udham Singh Sunam and Lala Lajpat Rai don’t require any introduction. At present 22 District exists in Punjab. So far as BSNL is concerned there are 11 SSA’s Civil and Electrical wings. The office of the CGMT is situated at Chandigarh.As per census 2011 Punjab has a population of 2.77 crores. Out of which male and female are14634819 and 13069417 respectively. Literacy rate in Punjab has upward trend and is 76.68%. Male literacy stands at 81.48% while female literacy is at 71.34%. Total area of Punjab is 50362 Sqr KMs. Density of Punjab is 550 per Sqr KMswhich is higher than National average of 382 Sqr. K.M’s.

Venue of the Conference

The Venue of the Conference is “Riviera Resorts” Pakhowal Road Ludhiana. The venue is fully Air conditioned and with 24 Hours power backup. The distance of the venue from Railway station is 6 KMs and 4KMsfrom Bus Stand.

Accommodation

The Accommodation Committee is making all out efforts to make your stay comfortable at Ludhiana. Efforts are also being made to provide accommodation to each and every delegate/observer. The accommodation booked so far is within 3 KMsof the venue. Arrangements for the stay of 2200 Delegates/Observers have been made so far. Circle Secretaries and District Secretaries are requested to send the list of Delegates /Observers in the Performa available at Punjab Circle Union website i.e. so that the arrangements may be made accordingly. Climate

The climate will not be too hot in the month of September. The day temperature may rise to 30 degree, but night temperature will be normal. There may be drizzling during the month.

How to reach Ludhiana

Ludhiana is well connected with train links. All trains going to Amritsar and Jammu pass through Ludhiana. Bus service from Delhi is also available. Buses going to Amritsar, Jammu also stop at Ludhiana. Daily flights are also available from New Delhi to Ludhiana.

Reception of Delegates/observers

Volunteers of Reception Committee will be available at Railway Station and Bus Stand Ludhiana. Transport from Railway Station and Bus stand will be provided. In any difficulty you may contact Com. Chanchal Singh Convener Transport Committee over Mobile No. 09417239813.

Kitchen

Kitchen will be opened from 0800 hours on 25th September and daily breakfast lunch and dinner will be provided to the delegates and observers at the Venue itself. Morning tea will be served at place of stay.

Delegate/Observer fee

As per list circulated by CHQ the number of eligible delegates is 1274 and number of visitors as allowed by the CHQ is 637 hence the total number of participants comes to 1901.CS/DSs are requested to intimate the additional participants in advance so that the arrangements may be made accordingly.The Reception Committee has proposed Rs 700/- as Delegate/Observer fee. The fee will be charged equally from the delegates and observers.

Main Tourist Attractions in Punjab

Amritsar

The most important tourist center in the state is Amritsar with its Golden Temple. The Golden Temple is the holiest place of Sikhs and houses Akal Takhat, the supreme seat of Sikhism. Other attraction for touristsis the Durgiana Temple which is very near to the Golden Temple. Durgiana Temple is the 16th Century Hindu Temple and is undoubtedly a must visit place.Jallianwala Bagh where hundreds of Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims were killed by the Britishers is also very near to the Golden Temple. A monument in the memory of martyrs has been built in this bagh. Wagha Border is the line of control between India and Pakistan and is situated near Atari just 30 KMsfrom Amritsar. Amritsar is 144 KMs from Ludhiana.

Ludhiana

Ludhiana is famous for its Hosiery and woolengoods and products from Ludhiana are exported all over the world. For its production of Hosiery Ludhiana is also known as the Manchester of India. It also boasts of the world famous Punjab Agriculture University. Ludhiana is Financial Capital, and Industrial hub of Punjab. Ludhiana city’s best Icon Clock Tower popularly known as” Ghanta Ghar”is 106 years old. The Clock Tower, prime land mark of city has also come up as emblem of Ludhiana.

Patiala

Patiala is the erstwhile princely state of Punjab with several tourist attractions to offer. Patiala is easily accessible place that would give one the much needed tranquility far from urban chaos. Main tourist of Patiala are Qila Mubark,Sheesh Mahal, Bahadurgarh fort, Moti Bagh Palace, Lachhman Jhoola, Baradari Garden,and Moti Bagh. Patiala is just 100 KMs from Ludhiana.

Chandigarh

Chandigarh is best known as the “City Beautiful” and is located near the foot hills of Shivalik range of the Himalayas. Chandigarh is Union Territory of India and serves as Capital of two states of Punjab & Haryana. Places worth seeing in Chandigarh includes, Nek ChandRock Garden,Sukhna Lake. Rose Garden etc. Pinjore Garden is also very near to Chandigarh. No direct Rail link is available for Chandigarh from Ludhiana however a very good bus service is available. Chandigarh is just 110 KMsfrom Ludhiana

Jalandhar

Jalandhar is an ancient city in Punjab and is situated on G.T Road going to Amritsar at a distance of 66 KMs from Ludhiana. Jalandhar is India’s foremost producer of sports goods. Its steel and re-rolling Iron mills, Rubber goods electric goods, Automobile parts and hand looms products are very famous. Jalandhar is well connected by Rail and bus link.
