Purpose / This unit standard is for people working in the dyeing and finishing industry.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of a computerised colour measurement system; prepare a computerised colour measurement system and take measurements; and maintain the work area.

Explanatory notes
1Performance of the elements must comply with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.
2Competence must be demonstrated measuring a range of samples representative of product requiring measurement in the workplace.
3Definition
Workplace procedures refer to the verbal or documented procedures for performing activities including health and safety, operational, environmental and quality management requirements. They refer to manuals, manufacturer's specification, codes of practice, or policy statements.

Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of a computerised colour measurement system.
Evidence requirements
1.1Sections of a computerised colour measurement system are described in terms of their function.
Rangecomputer, visual display screen, printer, spectrophotometer, keyboard and/or controls.
Outcome 2
Prepare a computerised colour measurement system and take measurements.
Evidence requirements
2.1System is calibrated in accordance with workplace procedures.
2.2Sample is prepared for measurement in accordance with workplace procedures.
2.3Data input meets system requirements for type of measurement and the sample being measured.
2.4Measurements are taken in accordance with workplace procedures.
2.5Actions taken in response to results are in accordance with workplace procedures.
Outcome 3
Maintain the work area.
Evidence requirements
3.1Machine and work area are cleaned in accordance with workplace procedures.
3.2Measured samples are disposed of or stored in accordance with workplace procedures.
