ADM Practice #6

*5 minute warm up with pucks while coaches get the equipment out
*10 minute scrimmage 3v3 or 4v4 split the ice into 3 sections. Set up full bumpers across both blue lines. (House in the Zamboni door end, Squirt Travel in the middle, Mite travel in other end)
*6 stations for 7 minutes each

Description

Station 1 - Catch and shoot. 2 coaches at this station. Coaches rapidly pass pucks out to the stationary players. Players catch the pass and immediately shoot on goal. The focus of this drill is to receive the puck and move their feet into shooting position without stickhandling.
Station 2 - 3v3 tight space. Play 3v3 in confined space for 30 to 40 second shifts. Focus on body contact and fighting for the puck without reaching (no sword fights with sticks)
Station 3 - partner passing. Focus on good tape to tape passes. Hands in front of the body to receive the pass. Make sure players let their sticks give a little when receiving the pass. They should finish by pointing their stick at the target.
Station 4 - 2v0. Coach dumps the puck in the corner. One player goes and gets it while other circles out front. Tires serve as defenders in the passing lanes. Focus on making a good tape to tape pass and positioning after the shot for the rebound.
Station 5 - players line up at two different cones. At the same time, the first player in each line skates out and does a figure 8 around the two cones in direct line with them. They go around the far cone twice and then get back in line. The next person immediately starts. Focus on keeping their head up so they don't collide. Also focus on leading with their stick around the cone and making a tight turn. Using the outside edge of the skate closest to the cone and the inside edge of the far skate and proper body lean.
Station 6 - Catch the stick (Tuesday) . This drill focuses on a good start. Partner holds up a stick on its butt end and the other partner tries to catch it. The focus of this drill is the start. Don't let the players continue to dive. They must stay on their feet. Focus on quick powerful starts: v-start, t-start, and cross over start.

Agilities over sticks (Wednesday) – Laid sticks out parallel to the players and have them go over, right foot first; left foot first, alternating left then right. Also had them go over them laterally. Focus on footwork, agility, coordination and balance. We have been doing these now for a couple of months and the improvement in all the players is awesome!
Goalie station - Goalies with participate with their team for 2 rotations of station 4, and station 1. They will rotate to the goalie station for the two other times. 1) Middle out 2 puck. This drill the goalie starts on the post and moves out to the middle of the net. Coach takes one shot, then immediately picks up the second puck and moves to one side or the other. Goalie must butterfly slide or t-Push back toward the post to make the save. 2)4 zones behind the net movement.
