WELSH GROUNDHOP

27 – 30 August 2010

Dear all

The ninth Welsh Groundhop will begin on Friday 27 August 2010. This year the weekend will feature ten matches and will be our first staged with the Mid-Wales League. Once more, we have kept prices down as far as possible, with prices actually slightly cheaper than last year on the coach and for match tickets! Overall, a full weekend – that’s match tickets and programmes for all ten games, three nights B&B accommodation in a twin room, and four days travel on the coach – will cost you £170. That’s not bad value at all, and in the current economic climate with stupid fuel costs, that’s no mean feat.

Please note that the schedule at this point is still subject to final confirmation due to Cup commitments.

We kick off on Friday evening with a trip to Abermule (6.30pm). On Saturday, our opening match is at Llanfyllin (12.30pm), followed by Four Crosses at 3.30pm and we end Saturday with a Welsh Cup clash at Llanidloes Town as they host Llansantffraid Village (7.30pm). Sunday starts at Rhosgoch (11am), followed by Newbridge-on-Wye at 3.30pm, before moving on to Llandrindod Wells at 6.30pm. Monday begins at Carno (11am) before we travel to Montgomery Town (2.15pm) and the hop rounds off at Kerry (5.30pm).

Coach – IMPORTANT!!

We at least have one base this year, so I’m hoping that the coach use will reflect that! Why not let the coach take the strain for the weekend, be ferried around in comfort, and enjoy a beer or two? We are also repeating last year’s ticket discount, so book the coach for the full weekend and we’ll discount the ticket down by a further £3 to £35. Bargain!

The coach will pick up at set times on the Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings from the Railway station in Newtown, and will return there in the evenings. On Monday evening, the last trains out of Newtown are at 20.49, so there is a chance for those travelling by rail to get away. The last train to London that day is 18.46, regrettably we are unable to schedule games in order to meet that (we did try, honest!). The cost of the coach will be available at a daily rate, but priority will be given to those booking for the full weekend. Bookings will not be accepted for coach transport only (with no accommodation or ticket).

Accommodation

This year, you may stay wherever in Mid-Wales that you like!! We have accommodation booked purely for coach users in Newtown, although we have also looked at several other places that can be used by those travelling independently (they were too far out of Newtown for the coach party!). Please let us know what you are looking for, and we’ll see what we can find for you. All of the accommodation is B&B, some of it is in a quiet area, most of it is in…yes, Real Ale pubs. Do we look after you or what?!

There is an option of Thursday and Monday nights for those who wish to come down early or go home on the Tuesday. Again, this is at the same B&B rate. For those using their cars, we have had several places recommended to us by the clubs in the League so are spread out over the region. We’d like to use those, so please feel free to contact us and ask and we’ll find something for you.

Programmes etc

All clubs will be made aware of the number of programmes that will be needed on the day. The number will be based on the bookings we receive, so reserve your copies by booking tickets! Packs will be made up in advance for the Hop. Extra programme packs are not available. Programmes will be available inside each of the grounds. Programmes will be included in the price of your advance ticket. Club badges will be available on the day at all clubs, and no doubt lots of other people will be selling things too!!

Trading

Several traders will be in attendance at the hop. As usual, all the unofficial trading that is part and parcel of a hop is not only welcome, but encouraged!! The only proviso we make is that if you are trading, you need to hold a full weekend ticket.

Match Tickets

Tickets are available in advance for the hop, and these of course guarantee you a programme at each game. The advance ticket will give a saving of £4 on the matchday admissions, those using the coach will enjoy a further discount. Admission is available on the day for those who do not wish to buy tickets in advance.

SAEs

We get some real problems here – so excuse us if this sounds a bit dictatorial!! When booking, remember to include an A5 Stamped addressed envelope (That’s the normal size of a programme) for your tickets and information to be sent out to you. Please remember to put the correct postage on your envelopes, especially if you use anything bigger than A5. We still have major problems with this even now – please, please, please get this right. Underpaid envelopes will not be paid for by the Hop, nor will they be collected from Long Eaton Post Office if undelivered. Can you also use a good quality envelope – you wouldn’t believe some of the rubbish we are sent to save a few pennies. Oh, and NO SMALL ENVELOPES PLEASE!! Remember – no SAE, no tickets.

Booking and Payment

You may book for the hop by completing the attached Booking form, and we look forward to seeing you on the Bank Holiday Weekend!
