Welcome Back!

Welcome back to everyone and a special welcome to all our new pupils. In Reception - Daisy & Lillie Balfe, Caitlyn Bevan, Sophia Brimley, Ellie Darrell, Darcey Deadman, Reece Finlay, Grace Gandy, Joshua Griggs, Daisy Harris, Jack Hollinshead, Billy Morrison, Toby Nellins, Keeley Perry, Nat Roberts, Finley Shuttle, Owen Spurdle and Thomas Wakeley. In other year groups we would also like to welcome Callum Lynch, Clodagh Whitehouse, Ella & Tyson Williams, Kleio & Nico Aspinall and Roisin Pitt. We hope you will all be very happy at Stoke on Tern!

New Leave of Absence Legislation from Sept 2013

“As of 1 September 2013 there has been a change in the School Attendance Regulations. Where there used to be the option for headteachers to grant leave of absence for the purpose of a family holiday during the term time in ‘special circumstances’ of up to ten days in a year, this has been removed.

Headteachers are now only allowed to authorise any leave of absence when an application has been made in advance and it is felt to be for an exceptional circumstance; the annual family holiday would not be deemed an exceptional circumstance”.

Applications can be obtained from the school office.

We would ask that parents keep us informed of changes of address & telephone numbers, particularly mobile numbers as we use the Teachers2Parents texting service to keep parents up to date & informed. Similarly any changes to medical conditions such as children being diagnosed with Asthma or no longer requiring an inhaler in school.

For those new to school, children who receive the class Red Certificate on a Friday are invited to have lunch with Ms Russell and another member of staff on the following Wednesday.

School Lunches

We hope parents will continue to support our school meal service in order for us to keep the cost of a meal at £2.00 per day (£1.50 for Nursery children). We will be working closely with our cook, Mrs Ritchings to make sure the meals we provide are as healthy as possible and what the children want. We will be sending a questionnaire out to each family shortly for your views.

Academic Year 2014/15

Although this academic year has only just started it is time to apply for places in Reception and Year 7 (secondary School) for next year! All current Year 6 pupils should already have received a letter for transfer to Secondary School. Please let us know in the office if you have not received one as the deadline for applications is 31 October.

Similarly if you have a child that was born between 01/09/2009 & 31/08/2010 you need to apply for a place in Reception for September 2014. Letters have been sent from Shropshire Council, however if you have not received one you can go online at to apply or pop into the school office and we can help you. The deadline for applications for Reception is 14/01/2014.

You will have noticed that we have had a facelift over the summer holidays, with new windows and doors to the front of school. The children have also had brand new toilets. The new colour schemes have proved very popular.

Welcome back to all Nursery children after a sunny summer break! It’s lovely to see all of our Nursery leavers so happy and settled in school. Well done to all of them! Welcome to our new starters:- Summer Roberts and Anna Ilchenko, you’ve settled in beautifully this week. Please note that for a short time Nursery will be closed on a Tuesday.

Any enquiries for places, please contact Cerrie on 01630 638961. Thank you
