*Any events going on this week during the evening that would affect Green D, please let Dan Heckman. know.

*Will not be doing budgetary recycling next year. At the College, we will be developing 3 year budget plans.

Academic Affairs: Personnel updates and changes. We need to ensure that in the future there is assistance with more targeted and aggressive recruitment, major advising problems, and admissions. Please send any additional thoughts about what may be needed to support work at the unit level to Gary Kesler.

New Faculty Mentoring The handout to assist heads in selecting mentors was discussed and will be revised. A different version will be used to explain the formative first year program for new faculty to both mentors and new faculty. Mentors and new faculty will sit together at the all college lunch on August 19. We will be hosting additional faculty development opportunities and once the calendar for those is finalized it will be posted on the website. Though this particular program is focused on acculturation to Penn State through available resources and networking, please consider ways that observations of new faculty can support effective teaching. This can be through unit head observation and or other faculty mentors observations and the feedback can be shared as part of the annual evaluation as well as be included in the 2nd and fourth year dossiers, if unit guidelines permit. We will not include classroom observation as part of the new formative mentoring program; that will be left to the unit heads.

Strategic Plan Values (Regis Becker) (Powerpoint sent in advance):

Regis Becker, Director of University Ethics and Compliance, presented an update on the development of university values, which has been in discussion with university-wide surveys for the past two years. All Colleges and units are encouraged to consider ways that the University wide values may be incorporated in the current Strategic Planning process and ways that they can become a reality in our decision-making and interactions with one another. (Attached is a Power Point to provide ideas for incorporation in planning.) Some colleges have developed honor codes and A&A may wish to do that in the future.

All-College Meeting: Reminder the meeting is on August 19 at the Penn Stater. The agenda is as follows:

Afternoon – Detailed agenda to be finalized:

Mentors and new faculty meet back in Borland 121

Mentors dismissed after first half-hour; new faculty will cover some basics at the College and be dismissed by 3:00.

Strategic Plan: Keith Cummings and Cody Goddard are designing a version for the Provost, because well-designed presentation is part of our identity. We will send a PDF of the draft plan to the provost next week, with copies to DDD. Once we get our feedback from the Provost, Keith and others will develop a version designed specifically for the website.

October 15 is when we would like the final version of your unit plan. Schulz, Korner, Kesler will be providing further feedback on unit plans.

Immediate Metrics: We need to work together to identify the metrics, especially placement information for graduating students. Several ideas were discussed. Kesler will be back with some specific recommendations and plans; all are invited to consider ways they can track placement more effectively and share ideas about how we can improve college-level systems to support the gathering of information.

Have a great July with safe travels.
