Engaging Workplace Partners in Donate Life Month on a Statewide Basis
Workplace Partner: KentuckyHospital Association (KHA)
Strategy: Enhance outreach and activities of Workplace Partner during Donate Life Month to increase donor awareness among those working in or visiting their local hospital, as well as those living in the community.
Tactics: Do The Work For Them!!!!
Work From the Top Down.
Tools: 1) 11 minute continuous loop video
2) Donate Life Flag
3) Newsletter article on U.S. Transplant Games
4) Donate Life Table tents
Action: Through the Executive Director of the Kentucky Hospital Association, and the KHA liaison that he appointed to work with KODA, information and opportunities about DONATE LIFE Month are disseminated to KHA membership via e-mail, direct mail and KHA newsletter in February and March. Member hospitals are reminded that they are Workplace Partners, and April is an ideal time to promote donation.
- KODA provides KHA with blurb on Donate Life Month and what will be available to hospitals. (January)
- KHA Executive Director sends out monthly letter, encouraging hospital CEOs and PR Departments to participate in Donate Life Month.Info is also included in e-mails to same and KHA newsletter, with info on who to call, etc. (February and March)
- KODA Education Department fulfills requests from hospitals for any of the above materials listed under “Tools.” (April)
Intent/Outcome:
*Increase knowledge among ALL hospital staff, not just those hospitals or departments reached through Hospital Development efforts. * Provide Workplace Partner (hospitals) with materials to promote awareness and put it in their hands.
*Push for participation in Donate Life Month, laying the groundwork for involvement in other donor awareness events in the community, i.e., National Donor Sabbath Weekend, Donor Quilt Display…

Sample Text that is Disseminated to Hospitals
As the federally certified organ procurement organization for the state of Kentucky, Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) works year round to increase the public’s commitment to organ, tissue and eye donation. The month of April, which is federally sanctioned National Donate Life Month, creates a renewed opportunity for hospitals to dispel myths and teach people the facts about donation and transplantation. You can again be a partner in these efforts and help save lives!!
For Donate Life Month, KODA will have the following opportunities available to hospitals. Please join in, and choose one or more ways to create donor awareness in your hospital and community!
1)Request an 11 minute continuous loop DVD, containing stories from recipients, donor families and medical professionals, for your in-house tv station, or a brown bag lunch session;
2) Request a banner proclaiming “Donate Life: Honoring Organ, Tissue, and Eye Donors” and hang during April in lobby, cafeteria, entrance of hospital or where deemed appropriate.
3) Request and print an article in your hospital newsletter about the U.S. Transplant Games being held in Louisville June 2006;
4) Request informational “table tents” that can be set in waiting rooms and the hospital cafeteria, if applicable
Please contact Jenny Miller Jones at KODA to request any of the above materials. ( or 1-859-278-3492)
