3D scanning company to sponsor WSR BTCC season
3D optical measurement firm Physical Digital is thrilled to confirm that it has signed a sponsorship deal with West Surrey Racing (WSR) for the 2017 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season.

Since its foundation in 1981, WSR has gained a formidable reputation as one of Europe’s most successful racing teams, initially gaining huge success throughout the 1980s in the British Formula 3 Championships. WSR then set its sights on the BTCC series and has enjoyed triumphs across the board including five championship victories, nine independents’ titles and first place in 69 BTCC races. Its latest success in 2016 was being crowned first in both the Manufacturers' and Teams' categories, to add to their impressive array of silverware from previous seasons.
Physical Digital is ideally placed to support WSR through the provision of its range of measurement-related services, including high-resolution 3D scanning, quality inspection,deformation measurement and reverse engineering.
Physical Digital’s Director Tim Rapley set up the award-winning company in 2005 in response to the requirement from automotive and aerospace firms for highly-accurate measurement data. Since then, many global organisations have come to rely on the outstanding service and high quality data provided by the expert team at Physical Digital, for projects where reliability, accuracy and traceability are crucial.

3D scanning of BMW engine
Physical Digital has already carried out a number of3D scanningprojects, one of which was WSR’s new for 2017 BMW engine and the company will complete further measurement-based projects throughout 2017. Details of these projects will be published in conjunction with WSR.
WSR will be competing in this year’s BTCC season with three BMW 125i M Sport that they have designed and built. The 2017 season sees the return of Colin Turkington to WSR, where he won both his BTCC Driver’s titles. Turkington has enjoyed three previous stints with WSR, in 2002-2004, 2006-2009, and 2013-2014. Rob Collard remains with the team, saying, “It’s fantastic to be staying with WSR. They have a pedigree like no other team in the BTCC and the level of professionalism and preparation that has been key to their success is clear to see in everything they do.”

BTCC leading the race
The BTCC is established as Britain’s leading motor sport series, appearing at all the UK’s leading race circuits and enjoying extensive live, free-to-air TV coverage. It achieves impressive spectator numbers at all its events and the TV viewing figures underline the BTCC’s position as one of the world’s greatest motor racing attractions.
During the 2017 season, the action will take place at nine of the UK’s favourite motor sport circuits across ten weekends, starting on Saturday 1st April at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. The BTCC races then travel during the following six months to Donington Park, Thruxton, Oulton Park, Croft, Snetterton, Knockhill, Rockingham and Silverstone. The finale of the 2017 BTCC season will also be held at Brands Hatch, where drivers will compete on the Grand Prix Circuit on 1st October.
