Discipleship Pastor - Job Description
Mitchell Berean Church, Mitchell, NE.
Purpose
The purpose of the Discipleship Pastor position is:
To implement our church purpose of making disciples through seeing people saved and saved people reproducing through:
a. Oversee Church Equipping by provide biblical and practical training for believers so that they are equipped to make disciples.
b. Oversee Community Evangelism by encouraging believers to practically live out our church purpose of making disciples through community involvement.
Qualifications
1. The individual is a “born again believer in Christ and has a consistent, growing walk with the Lord.
2. Preferably, a minimum of 5 years’ experience equipping people to do the work of the ministry.
3. The individual endorses the MBC and Berean Fundamental Council constitutions.
4. The individual has the conviction, passion and giftedness to equip and lead. (Ephesians 4:12; John 13:5)
5. The individual feels God’s call upon his life for this position.
Procedures
1. Upon hiring, the Discipleship Pastor will be on a six-month probationary status. A three-month performance review will be followed by the six-month performance review, by the Lead Pastor with input from the Elder team. If the candidate, Lead Pastor and Elder team are in full agreement of ending the probation status, then the Discipleship Pastor will be off probation review status and his status will be reviewed yearly by the Lead Pastor with input from the Elder team.
2. The Discipleship Pastor will sign a "Pastoral Covenant" an “Employee Handbook Acknowledgement form” and “Preventive Child Abuse Policy.”
3. The Discipleship Pastor will attend the weekly Staff Meetings.
4. If requested, the Discipleship Pastor will attend the Berean Fellowship District Meeting.
5. The Discipleship Pastor will attend the annual Berean National Convention whenever possible. (MBC will cover the expenses.)
6. The Discipleship Pastor will attend all public congregational services.
7. The Discipleship Pastor will submit a monthly ministry report to the Lead Pastor.
8. Upon approval of Lead Pastor the Discipleship Pastor has permission to speak up to 2 times per year at various conferences or other churches.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Help cast and communicate vision for discipleship through Church Equipping and Community Evangelism.
2. Oversee Discipleship Ministry:
A. Church Equipping
i.) Develop and implement material to be used in church equipping classes to train
believers to live out our church purpose of making disciples. Classes would include:
• Starting point (Salvation, Church beliefs - purpose and practice)
• Spiritual disciplines (Developing biblical habits to jumpstart your spiritual life)
• Spiritual gifts and shape (Understanding how God put you together)
• Serve (Discovering how to make disciples by serving the church and community)
ii.) Recruit and train leaders to help implement discipleship through these church equipping classes.
iii.) Serve as the director and coordinator of the MBC assimilation process and equip leaders to help with the assimilation of new attenders.
iv.) Provide quarterly meetings for encouragement, education, and evaluation of church equipping leaders
B. Community outreach
i.) Help oversee the making of disciples by providing avenues for believers to serve in their
community.
ii.) Organize strategic outreach events in our communities with follow up opportunities
iii.) Systematically meet with key community leaders to strategize on how to reach specific areas of their communities (hospital, business owners, local government)
3. Give attention to life groups and bible study groups, helping to encourage the desire to reproduce disciples by equipping and encouraging them.
4. Maintain and update MBC website as it pertains to Discipleship ministry.
5. Work with the Lead Pastor to creatively promote and celebrate Discipleship ministry with the congregation through testimonies, drama, video, special events and other strategies.
6. Regularly evaluate Discipleship ministry as to its effectiveness in order to make any needed adjustments.
7. Be visible and available to our people before and after worship services
Secondary Responsibilities
1. Assist as needed in any pastoral functions (counseling, hospital visitation, child dedications, baptisms, wedding, & funerals).
2. Create, develop and maintain needed technology – podcasts, live streaming, audio, video, etc.
3. Serve other ministries as a personal resource and a resource of personnel
