Rocky Manginelli Swap Meet Volunteers Needed- The 42nd annual Rocky Maginelli Memorial Swap Meet is Sunday, March 8, 2015. Sponsored by the 60+ clubs of the Eastern Nebraska-Western Iowa Car Council.

We need volunteers to collect free will donations of cash and food from incoming cars. Shifts: 6-8am, 8-10am & 10-12pm at 3 gates.

Postal Food Drive– We are looking for volunteer groups to collect food donations on Saturday May 9th,

beginning at 8am. Get to know your community by joining our letter carriers with their annual food drive and assist them in alleviating hunger in Southeast Nebraska!

Food Distribution - Neighborhood Food Distribution Program Volunteers are needed to help set up, distribute food and clean-up sites when done. Distribution sites are F Street Community Center, 1225 F St, Air Park Recreation Center, 3720 NW 46th St, Malone Community Center, 2032 U St, Oak Lake Evangelical Free Church, 3300 N 1st St and The Center for People in Need, 3901 N. 27th St. Days and times vary, contact Vickie for a schedule.

Meals on Wheels Volunteers Needed - Help elderly and shut-in community members remain independent and in their homes by delivering hot and nutritious meals to them. Select a schedule that fits your schedule, i.e. weekly, monthly or on-call basis. Volunteers will need to be available between 10:45 AM - 12:30 PM. Friendly Visitor – Provide companionship with a resident by chatting, playing a game, helping them read their mail or newspaper. Share your creative side by doing crafts or putting puzzles together. University of Nebraska State Museum of Natural History

Sunday with a Scientist: Sunday with a Scientist is a series of presentations that highlight the work of scientists, while educating kids and families on a variety of topics related to science and natural history. Volunteers are needed to greet museum visitors and to help hand out evaluations after the event. Sundays with a Scientist typically takes place from 1:30-4:30 pm at Morrill Hall on the third Sunday of each month.

Lincoln Bike Kitchen

The Lincoln Bike Kitchen provides refurbished bikes and parts to community members so anyone that wants to be biking can be, for free. By combining free access to professional tools with a team of knowledgeable and dedicated volunteers we also aim to help others develop the basic maintenance skills that will keep their bikes rolling for a lifetime.

Boutique Help Needed - Cause for Paws is a "boutique for cheap" that turns donated, gently used women's clothing, décor, furniture and more into cash donations for local animal charities and causes. Assist shoppers with purchases, accept items from donors, prepare them for display and keep the boutique looking good. A passion for providing exceptional, personal customer service is required; those with marketing and/or retail experience are especially desired. Training is provided; store is open Mon.-Sat. from 10-5, Thurs., from 10-6.

Teen Court Volunteer- CEDARS Teen Court program is currently accepting student and adult volunteers to help during teen court sessions. Teen Court works to determine creative sentencing for adolescent youth who are on Diversion for first-time, non-violent, criminal offenses.

Student volunteers are welcome, and must be at least 16 years old. Lincoln Public School "GoPo" hours are accepted. Students will act as members of the court to help determine consequences for criminal behavior. This is a fun, interesting opportunity to serve with other students, contribute to a good cause and help out fellow teenagers.

All volunteers must complete a 2-hour orientation, and be available on Thursday afternoons from 4:15pm-6:00pm.

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Greeter- Greeters are those vital volunteers who will first greet the taxpayers as they come into our sites. At times, making sure people are able to get in the door will be necessary, such as at Community Action.

Greeters will greet taxpayers with a friendly hello, ask if they have the necessary paperwork to complete their return (training is provided) and show them to the tax preparation lobby area.

A short Standards of Conduct test is required of all VITA greeters as well as our easy online application and hours tracking software.

The sites that require greeters are:

•Community Action – Monday & Thursday 5:00pm-8:00pm (Jan 26th-April 13th)

•Bennett Martin Library – Sundays 1:00pm-4:00pm (Feb 1st – Apr 12th)

•Anderson Library – Tuesdays & Wednesdays 4:30pm-7:00pm (Jan 27th- April 15th)

•Wahoo Library – (Jan 27th, Feb 3rd, 10th, 17th, April 7th & 14th) 4:30pm-7:30pm

5K Race Volunteer – The Nebraska Community Blood Bank is partnering with Born and Raced in Nebraska (BRIN) as their 2015 charitable partner. We are needing volunteers to help at the Kicks'n Kisses Valentine's - themed 5K Run on Sun. Feb. 15 at the Railyard in Lincoln. Volunteer activities include: set-up, tear down, registration, parking, stuffing race packets, handing out water to runners, etc.

Hazardous Waste Collection Volunteers Needed – Sat. April 25 volunteers are needed to help at Wal-Mart South, 87th & Hwy 2, hazardous waste collection. Volunteer shifts available 8:30-11:00 or 11:00-1:30.

•These events are a great way for the community to dispose of potentially hazardous products commonly found around the house.

•Volunteers are needed at these events to direct traffic, conduct surveys, and provide the participants with educational material.
