25TH PICTON BEAVER COLONY - ANNUAL REPORT 2016

30 in 2016 was the magic number for Beaver Scouts. In 2016 we celebrated 30 years of Beaver Scouts. At the start of the year we stepped up to take on the challenge to enable us to receive the District Beaver 30th birthday badge. This involved lots of activities and challenges that included the number 30 or added upto 30.

The Teddy Bear hospital paid us a visit early on in the year and this gave the Beavers an opportunity to learn important life saving emergency skills including CPR.

We have been involved in taking part in lots of District events this year to help us

celebrated our birthday. We started with a visit to Woolton Cinema to watch a film and at the end we all sang happy birthday to Beavers. In September we went on another district visit to Gulliver’s World by Warrington and the Beavers, Leaders and parent helpers had an

excellent time on the day, not only was the weather kind to us, we all went on so many rides to many to mention.

This year we went to Wingdings at Tawd Vale for the day with the district. The Beavers took part in many activities and this gave them an opportunity to obtain many of their badges. They even had go at chopping wood with an axe. It was a full on day. I imagine the Beavers slept well that night on their return, I know I did.

We joined forces with the Scout section for our annual visit to Freshfields this year, we all met up at the South Park Way train station and travelled together. Once we arrived at Freshfield Station the Scouts went marching ahead, we saw them quickly fade into the distance, as our legs are a bit shorter so couldn’t keep up with them. This year I am pleased to announce that we definitely noticed the increase in population of the red squirrels; in fact for the first time in many visits we actually lost count of the number of Red Squirrels we saw. During our visit we managed to find 30 interesting facts about Freshield, so we obtained another tick for our birthday challenge. Prior to the Scouts disappearing into the horizon we had arranged to meet them for lunch and eat together which was fun, we all shared a birthday cake I had bought along for Emma (Beaver Leader) as it was her birthday. After fun and games on the Beach we joined forces again with the Scouts, we all had well deserved ice creams them headed home together.

Once the weather improved during the year we spent as much time outside as possible as this gives the Beavers the opportunity to earn their camp craft badge.

This year because of the Olympics and Euros we have learnt about different countries and cultures. The Beavers also received their own Olympic medal at our mini Olympic games.

We welcomed a new leader this year Claire Hill to the Beaver team. We have lost 2 young leaders to the Scout Section with a view to them taking out a leadership role once they are 18. Finn a new young leader has joined us and seems to be enjoying his role.

We finished the year with a traditional Christmas games party and a visit from the big man himself.

Membership is very healthy.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank St Stephens, Elders ,fellow leaders and parents for their continuing support to make it happen for the Beavers. Thank you once again
