II. Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistantprovides quality nursing and personal care to the Sisters, responding to the sisters needs, and reporting pertinent information their supervisor. The Certified Nursing Assistant fosters a home-like environment and provides activities of interest to the Sisters.

The Certified Nursing Assistant supports the mission and values through shared values and service excellence, actively supporting our core values of service, human dignity, wholeness and presence in interaction with sisters, guests, staff, coworkers, and all others.

III. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A.The Certified Nursing Assistant Nurse promotes the Continuing Care Centers mission and the Wellness Model Values as evidenced by:

  3. Partners with Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse to deliver quality nursing care to Sisters.
  4. Gathers data relevant to the Sisters’ individual needs.
  5. Assists in the formulation of a plan of care and follows Sisters’ established plan of care.
  6. Observes symptoms, reactions, and changes and reports findings to Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse.
  7. Utilizes assignment sheets to guide care.
  8. Ensures safety through the proper use of devices and safeguards.
  9. Follows restorative and rehabilitative procedures.
  10. Assists Sisters with personal care functions using good body mechanics.
  11. Understands universal precautions and follows established infection control policies.
  12. Accepts assignments only if able to perform and within the scope of their professional certification.
  13. Demonstrates excellent customer service.
  14. Provides enrichment activities for the Sisters appropriate to age and condition, encouraging the sisters to live life to the fullest.
  15. Participates in creating a “home like” environment, keeping living area neat and orderly and removing equipment from the living area.
  16. Documents pertinent information on Sister’s ADL care plan.
  17. Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as effectively and efficiently with team members.
  18. Promotes an environment where Sisters enjoy meal time and snacks.
  19. Demonstrates effective functioning under stressful situations.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.

IV. Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with laundry.

Drive Sisters to appointments.

V. Professional Development

A.Attendance at 50% of departmental meetings.

  1. When not in attendance, employee is responsible to obtain and review 100% of information.

B.Attendance of 90% of all mandatory meetings.

  1. When not in attendance employee is responsible to obtain and review 100% of information.

C.Attends Mission and Values training as scheduled.

D.Documented 12 hours continuing education in-services yearly.

VI. Qualifications and Skills

A.Education

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Completion of approved Certified Nursing Assistant course with inclusion in Wisconsin Nurse Assistant Registry
  3. Current CPR certification preferred

B.Experience/Skills

  1. Must have knowledge of routine care activities and awareness of basic normal and abnormal conditions.
  2. Knowledge of elderly population or disabled population.

C.Special Skills, Abilities and Behaviors

  1. The ability to speak and write effectively in English.
  2. Demonstrates effective functioning/effective communication under stressful situations.
  3. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with people.
  4. Natural or corrected near visual acuity.
  5. Natural or corrected hearing
  6. Color vision
  7. Must be able to provide physical effort of moderate stress, which includes being able to move quickly, stand and walk for most of the shift, including lifting, carrying, and pushing of moderate weight. Must be able to lift 25-50 #’s
  8. Must be able to lift and transfer Sisters using good body mechanics.
  9. Must have the ability to reach, bend, stoop, push, pull, sit, stretch, and walk/stand for long periods of time.
  10. Must be a female due to the nature of the sister’s religious life and the personal care duties involved in this position at the convent.
  11. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to working with persons who are ill, disabled, elderly and/or emotionally upset.

VII. Working Conditions

Work is a combination of indoors and exposure to outside elements during transport duties. Indoor work is in a climate controlled environment. Noise levels are moderate and include talking, normal household appliances, and general office machines. Some exposure is possible to occupational disease through direct contact. Some contact with hazardous chemicals and cleaning solutions may be encountered. Driving is required to assist in the transport of Sisters, attend meetings and seminars, and purchase supplies.

VIII. Physical and Sensory Requirements

Moderate physical activity involved in most of the tasks performed. Standing, walking, and sitting depending on the tasks on a particular day. Grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling required, reaching, balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, lifting with assistance of others. Must be able to assist Sisters into and out of wheelchairs and vehicles. Must assist with ambulation and pushing of wheelchairs. Ability to make independent decisions and the ability to remain calm under stress required. Close and distant visions, peripheral vision and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus and distinguish color are required. Hearing is required.
