Rationale:
21st Century Elizabeth Bennet will examine Pride and Prejudice, a piece of literature written by Jane Austen during the turn of the 19th century. More specifically, the written task will portray a modern-day emotional interpretation of the novel’s protagonist Elizabeth Bennet. Twitter will be used as a medium, and Tweets will be produced to simulate how Elizabeth Bennet might have felt during the events of the novel. Twitter is a social networking site that allows users to publish 140-character posts known as Tweets. Additionally, pictures will be used and an accessory character will be used. This character is Jane Bennet, Elizabeth’s sister. Interactions between these key characters on Twitter will further develop an interpretation of character feelings in Pride and Prejudice. Thus Twitter will essentially serve as a contemporary journal medium with Elizabeth Bennet’s Tweets, conversational Tweets between Jane and Elizabeth Bennet, and posted pictures. Screenshots of the Tweets will be provided in addition to the text of the tweets. This task will take an innovative approach, which therefore might address young generations. It will also address any audience interested in a creative critical analysis of the classic novel by Jane Austen. The cultural context of the novel will be renovated to represent a unique, modern-day context.
