Coach Pena
From the Athletic Department
All coaches will have completed the Safe Environment requirements, as well as the Play Like A Champion training from the DPL. All coaches will also be offered training for CPR/AED, First Aid, Heat Illness, and Concussions.
Communication between coaches and parents will be handled through a new app called Doodlio. All parents will be required to use this free app through a phone and/or desktop computer. The app will have a practice schedule, along with game schedules, maps, needed documents, and direct messaging. Instructions for installing the app will be sent after registration is complete.
St. Monica athletics is providing base line testing for all athletes through the BEN HOGAN SPORTS MEDICINE AND CONCUSSION MANAGEMNET CENTER. Base line testing is done in the computer labs and takes only about 45 minutes. With that information, they can detect any sign or symptom of head trauma. This is an invaluable tool for proper diagnosis and treatment for concussions. St. Monica will follow all protocol through Ben Hogan Sports Center before a player is released back to playing sports, P.E., and other school related activities. All athletes age 12 or above will be required to complete a Base Line Test provided by the Athletic Department for free prior to participating in contact drills (testing is good for 2 years). Athletes under age 12 may be tested in the future. A Pediatric version is in a testing phase at this point. If testing gets approved, parents will be notified. All required documents will be in Doodlio.
Athletes are also required to have an athletic physical completed by a physician. The form will be included in the registration material, and put into Doodlio and the team’s sport page on the school website. Athletic physicals are good for one year from the exam date, and must be approved by the school nurse. Summer is a great time to get a physical, since it does not interfere with school. If your athlete is scheduled for braces, please consider starting the process immediately after the football season.
