WINTER FUNDRAISER

Hello everyone,

High School Basketball Season is now upon us, and that also means it is time to kick off our major fundraising efforts. As we all know, a lot of programs have financial needs and goals that are over and above what the District and School can cover. This year, we have a few. The Coaching Staff would like to starttaking all of the Freshman, JV, and Varsity teams to some kind of end of year event, as well as introduce Cleveland High’s Summer Hoops Programs.

Each year for a post-season event, we hope to let the Seniors decide on a group activity such as Dave & Busters, Top Golf, or movie night, where all the different levels can come together and hang out outside of basketball. We think this provides them a good opportunity to enjoy themselves and reflect on memories from the year. It also gives the younger players another chance to get advice from the outgoing class at a fun team bonding event.

Each year for our Summer Hoops Programs, Coach Campbell would like to introduce new activities as well as have a Weekend Warrior Team Camp. Camp would be where the returning players and new players interested in coming out for the program in the following year, can get familiar with the coaches and systems, bond, and get some training in together. This would be an overnight camp, which takes place on a Summer weekend TBD. Some of the other activities Coach Campbell is looking to schedule as part of Summer Hoops Programs, include things like: beach workouts, group hikes, and visits to college campuses to watch workouts and/or play.

Some of these things will be the beginning of a new culture for the Cleveland High School boys’ basketball program, but we hope to make these ongoing traditions with some longevity. Team Camp especially is one of the things that we will have to charge a registration fee for. In order for the players to participate, coaches will need to organize and pay for transportation, accommodation, meals, etc. However, if we can get everyone’s involvement and effort with fundraising, we believe that we can lower the cost for the players. Please take a look at our “Fundraising Goals” section on one of the following pages to see how you can help.

With that said, all parents will receive a fundraising packet, and each player will receive one at their first practice. We expect all players to participate at some level. Any little bit helps, and we appreciate any effort made to assist us in reaching our goals. There are going to be prizes for our top producer and our top shooters, and we encourage everyone to check out our section on “Fundraising Prizes” to see some of the cool things we have to offer this year to the winners.

The High School coaching staff encourages every player and family to have fun while taking part in this year’s Free-Throw-a-Thon Fundraiser, and we hope that reaching our goals will get everyone even more excited about the season and the direction we will be headed. There are lots of things in the works for not only this year, but years after, that will take Cleveland Basketball as a whole to the next level. Together, as a community, we know that we can achieve anything we work hard for and we look forward to seeing everyone involved!

Thank you for your support,

The CHS Coaching Staff

HIGH SCHOOL FUNDRAISING GOALS:

Our goal for the high school, is to have EACH PLAYER raise $300. They can collect pledges from family, friends, neighbors, etc. 10 pledges of $30 flat rate or more, 12 pledges of $25 or more, or pledges of 25 to 50 cents each made free-throw that end up totaling $300 could accomplish this. (These are just examples).

As a program, we are looking for fundraising to help have two Cleveland traditions go into effect this year:

-an end of year bonding event for all teams

-annual Summer Hoops Programs

For the annual end of year event-a night at Dave & Busters, a visit to Top Golf, and movie night are some suggestions the coaches have put on the table. Seniors will get to pick, but players at all levels are invited to be there. It will be a way to bond & reflect on the season, while having some fun outside of basketball. Most importantly, we will get to wish the Seniors good luck on their future journeys.

For the annual Summer Hoops Programs-Coach Campbell would like to start the “Weekend Warrior Team Camp”, set up beach workouts, hiking trips, and generate opportunities for the high school players to go watch college workouts. IF we are able to reach our fundraising goal, some of these things will become new Summer traditions at Cleveland High that could continue on for years to come.

FREE-THROW-A-THON DETAILS:

Frequently Asked Questions

When will I be shooting?

-Sunday, December 3rd

-More details will be sent out about the time slots for each grade.

How many shots do players get to shoot?

-100 Free Throws.

What do players need to bring to the Free-Throw-a-Thon?

-Players need to bring their pledge form. We record/tally the # of shots made, and give the total back to players so that they can use it when collecting the pledge donations.

What is a good “per make” amount to ask for?

-Asking pledges to contribute 25 cents to 50 cents per made shot is a good start. If you add up everything in the “$ per make” column on the pledge sheet, and it totals around $5, you are well on your way to reaching the individual goals we set.

Is it better to ask for a “per make” amount or a flat rate?

-It is up to you. A per make amount will encourage you to really focus on making your free-throws, and a flat rate takes the guess work out of the end calculation. Whatever you think will help you reach your goal is what you should choose.

When is the Deadline to collect from pledges?

-Please have all pledges collected and returned in your envelope to CHS Head Coach, Dondrale Campbell on December 17th.

-More details to come about what the collection process will look like.
